You know, you've got a car that's been on the road, AT MOST, 2 years. As sweet as it would be to have that car, I don't really see the point in putting out another monthly payment when you could be saving that money for a house. If you've got your heart set on getting a new car, more power to you, but do yourself a favour and build up a safety net-type savings. Run the Focus into the ground and then get the sweet, lady-attracting ride.
Check it out! I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year!

But that doesn't mean he has no money saved at all, maybe he just doesn't want to use it on that or maybe he just doesn't have enough?

If he can definitely make the payments and keep his money in order what is the problem.

If he can definitely make the payments and keep his money in order what is the problem.

He specifically outlined his reasons for considering this sort of purchase and nothing makes sense.  It's completely superfluous and it's more than likely going to sit around on shore for indefinite periods of time while he's out RIGGIN' or whatever it is he does, which also is not very good for the vehicle depending on how long he's out and how much he drives it when he's in.  Even with the BEST CASE SCENARIO he's going to lose around half of the vehicle's market value in five years, with more than FIVE GRAND of that disappearing before he can even get it completely paid off.

Which part of this decision comes off as intelligent to you, exactly?

Also I would have thought there would be more of a response from the voracious liberal sect here, as this thing only gets about 24mpg highway and everything about his decision to buy it seems less like a responsible, informed choice and more like HEY I MAKE MAGA$$$ TO BY SHIT I DONT NEED :D :D :D

think of the childrens

I was a valet for about a year and a half, in a really really rich part of town, so I've driven a lot of really nice cars. I like this Challenger a lot. It's really powerful, fun to drive. Not really my kind of car(I have a thing against Dodge), though. It's a really nice car, no doubt about it. One of the guys that came in and wanted me to park his Challenger had a SKULL FOR THE SHIFTER. AND THE EYES GLOWED BLUE. AND HE WAS BLARING SYSTEM OF A DOWN. WITH BLUE TINTED WINDOWS, AND DECALS ON THE BACK OF THE CAR. I think he had everything on the checklist (douchebag checklist).

Get a Nissan.

I can understand the bulk of this as coming off as sort of a bit 'douchey' except the system of a down part. What is douchey about system of a down? or was it that it was blaring?

on topic: I'd say don't get it. Probably isn't worth it. Then again I see cars as nothing but things that get me from point A to point B. Despite my liking of racing games.

so yeah even if I had lots of $$$ I'd actually get something that is safe, with a good to excellent gas mileage, and then get some luxury stuff.

this is my car jeep

ofcourse ofcourse. Still though it gets 25 mpg. :naughty:

btw the challenger rt gets 15 MPG city/23 MPG highway (manual), 16/23 (automatic). So if you want to save on gas the challenger would not be a wise choice.

i honestly think that buying a fucking car is one of the most boring things anyone could do with their money, especially considering the fact that he's already got one and won't even drive it that much.

its just $$$$$$

ok heres my situation if I missed anything out or someone didn't get what I was saying.

I owe 900$ on my focus. I have more than enough to pay it off right now, I just don't want to yet because I could use the money/am considering getting the challenger. I'm going to trade my focus in for the challenger, which should make it much cheaper. I'm hoping to get atleast 8-10k for my focus and if I don't I prolly won't go through with it (dunno yet). I'm going to pay for the car in payments but I'll probably keep the payments as small as possible and just drop larger sums of money each month for the car so I can pay it off faster.

I honestly have no legitimate reason for wanting to get this car other than I want a new car and this one is really cool + credits and I've never owned something really nice like that. A car is the most thing I use when I'm home though. I drive it to and from work cross state and everywhere else when I'm at home.

Neither will saving every penny just for the sake of saving! Which is the idea alot of people seem to have around here.

Frugality is responsible, and responsibility generally ensures security.  Security, be it personal or financial, tends to make people happy.  See how logical and liberal I am?

saving and investing is a very wise thing to do and can have a pretty big impact on your quality of life whereas a sportscar like that is something you usually get if you already have an abundance of money and a large disposable income. It's not really something to go into tens of thousands of dollars of debt over.

saving for the sake of saving is actually pretty fun too. view your bank account as a highscore table, then you have immediate joy and also joy later. i've done some math and saving works out to be best (using disneylands as a reference for units of happiness)
