I think this is pretty cool, because reality tv shows are so prevalent here. You can't walk into a magazine store without seeing no less than about five thousand different pictures of reality tv 'stars'. All of the redtops constantl have this shit as front-page news (mostly due to Murdoch owning most of them and ITV, so he wants to publicise it, like this is also the main reason why all the tabs are really vicious against the BBC when X-Factor is on, the BBC eat into Murdoch's precious audience) and all everybody ever talks about is x-factor. Like that jedwood thing a few weeks ago, I have like 100 friends on facebook yet it was filled with 300 different status messages about jedwood and x-factor.
The music on x-factor isn't just trashy bland pop music, it's far worse than like britney spears or justin timberlake. It's music just growned down to the point where voices don't have anything, the music contains nothing. It is inoffensive tedium. The musical equivalent of sitting in a dentist waiting room.

It's not a case of 'heh, wanna listen to some real music' but more a case of many people being fed up with it. And It's a pretty appropriate choice of song. Popular manufactured rebellion, which is exactly what this is. I don't give a toss about the charts, but I despise what the x-factor represents, so people saying they're fed up with it is cool.

I think a major issue is that they make so much money out of humiliating people every week and that's just not cool. That whole reality culture must've destroyed so many people.

wasn't that Rage Against the Machine song in MATRIX RELOADED or something?? how is it like, FIGHT THE POWER or whatever the point is?

I agree it should've been Merzbow or something like 'this is more enjoyable than shitty pop music'. Or this is good too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeNn_hG-8t4 . Or like a 30-minute loop of a car door closing, something very anti-music

it is manufactured rebellion. Popular. it's not about getting some unknown or atistic group some exposure, it is using a recognisable symbol of 'rebellion'. Also it has a chance of actually working. merzbow wouldn't. Is it really that hard to get??

Looks like this is happening. RATM is ahead and is about 6000 units ahead of Joe from X-Factor (I don't have a reference for this except something a friend told me) Looks like this is happening!

Ps - I just want an ironic number 1. Too many people like Rage for this to be something of interest to me.

Whoa. I just don't see the fun of something getting to number one that lot's of people like, compared to something else getting to number one that lots of people also like.

no. you are missing the point. its not about getting RATM to number one, its about not having XFactor get number one. it really doesn't fucking matter what the song is, but there needs to be one that everyone chooses! It just so happens the guy who made the facebook group in the first place decided that killing in the name of would be a good choice, BUT I DONT FUCKING CARE

GAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
