If grinding for hours is your idea of fun, why not just play one of those boring neverending mmorpgs forever?

It's not that.I just really disagree with the level cap it makes the game more of an action game then an rpg.

I buy a Final Fantasy game wanting a fun Turn Based and traditional RPG if I wanted an action game with rpg elements I would have just bought kingdom hearts (which I did).

What? How does a level cap make it an action RPG? It's just good design, stopping people from breaking the game.

Sorry I meant it makes it a action game with very little rpg elements such as leveling up and having turn based combat.

Well I'm not really sure if its turn based sometimes I hear it is sometimes I hear its not.
I don't get it.
sounds to complex to be fun but what ever.

How the fuck does the level cap has anything to do it with being turn based or not? And the battle system is turn based (ATB like FF4-9 and FF12 to be precise) just faster and more action-oriented, which is a good thing. The more I read about the battle system, the better it sounds and I have a feeling it might be the best in the series. The level cap doesn't really bother me but I have to admit that I like freedom when it comes to developing your characters which is the main reason why I like FF8's junction system so much, same goes for FF10's advanced sphere grid and FF12's license board. We'll just have to see how much the level cap affects the freedom of developing your characters. The level cap has its advantages too and if FF13 remains challenging through the whole game, that's definitely a good thing.

Based on what I have read about FF13, I have a feeling that the way it's going to work is that for the majority of the main story, the game is going to be pretty linear with not much optional stuff to do. Therefore your leveling is limited so that the game will stay consistently challenging. At a certain point of the game there will be more open areas, more stuff to do, optional hunts and such. I have a feeling at that point you'll have the freedom you need to develop your characters so that you can survive tough optional battles. FF12 let you do that from the very beginning and while I really loved all the hunts in FF12, if you wanted to beat them as early as possible, you simply had to be way too overleveled for the main story to pose any kind of challenge to you. We'll just have to see how FF13 handles that.

Well I'm just a fanboy!
But I think you should give it a chance the game gets extremely good at disc 3.

Where did you get upto though the game picks up after Lindblumn or however you spell it.

I had just gotten the dragoon girl I think.  It's been awhile I don't remember much about it.

Yeah thats right after lindblumn you had almost finished disc 1.
You are introduced to the main antagonist shortly.

Sorry if you miss understood but i was already angry that it didn't have turnbbased combat but now I hear that you can't level up.

I was wondering what were (if there was any) the rpg elements?

But it is turnbased awesome I'm a little more hyped about it now.

turnbased combat in rpgs is also boring as hell and not a thing to be excited about.
turnbased combat in strategy games is still fun as heck but not in rpgs

you are excited about all the bad features of the genre

Yeah turn based rpg's are like the only ones i like as well. Kingdom hearts exception of course(yes I know it's not the best series out there but it's a fun game if you can overlook the flaws)
If I wanted real time combat I would play an action game.

Man i just dont understand the people here in ARPGs 90% of the time your button-mashing in turn-based every encounter can be different and also turn based obviously requires alot more strategy though one thing can spoil a turn-based game either a horrible encounter rate or easiness. My point is instead of going out and buying yourself a shitty ARPG  (unless its kingdom hearts 1) buy yourself god of war or some other good action game cause youd obviously find it alot more enjoyable if your looking for a amazing adventure, lots of fun,a good story most of the time go out and buy yourself a good turn-based like final fantasy 10 or dragon quest 8.

*mashes x, character is actively doing something on screen*

*presses x, character casts fire II, wait for characters next turn, press x*

One of these is inherently more interesting than the other

also the "strategy" you're talking about is *CAST FIRAGA III* but don't  tell anyone  :shh:

like seriously even in chrono trigger THE BEST JRPG OF ALL TIME or whatever in the final battle all I found myself doing was *cast best spell, heal/revive, repeat* yay for the complex strategies!!!!
heck even in FABLE i find myself rolling around and defending and waiting for the opportune moment to strike which is more strategy than firecannon XII *deals 992 fire damage*
and Morrowind I have to plan things out carefully cause I play sneaky characters with few combat skills on hardest difficulty so even the first cave with the smuggles in it is a painful ordeal ("okay now that I stole this sword of paralysis and have a ring that grants invisibilty I will be able to paralyze the one with the spells while I try to kill the guy with the huge axe OH GOD I SHOULD HAVE PARALYZED THE AXE GUY MY STRATEGY IS POOR)

so much for your "more strategy" argument, heh heheheheh hehe heh  :welp:

edit: like honestly the most strategy i think ive found in any rpg (besides strategy rpgs like fire emblem) are like Craze/!\'s rpg maker games and its pretty bad when the best example of a piece of your genre is from RPG MAKER

this is a pretty good article on a guy's impressions of his first 10 hours of play

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/26643/Analysis_The_Conundrum_of_Final_Fantasy_XIII.php

sort of a longer read but it's well written and brings up what defines an rpg etc. and i guess can be skipped if reading GAMER LITERATURE isnt your bag o fig newtons

You kinda got a point most Jrpg's fall under this category.

but a few ones like Baten Kaitos and Final Fantasy Tactics don't....oh yeah and the Persona series and digital devil saga or pretty much every Shin Megami Tensei Game.

Also I don't get how people think Chrono Trigger is the best JRPG...sure it has a simple and fun battle system and great character design(keep in mind I'm a DBZ fan) but everything else about it is pretty average.
