Boring True 3D and You (Read 1021 times)

  • Group: Guest
I'm not too excited about true 3D gaming and I don't really think it's going to have a big impact. I've seen a few movies in 3D and didn't have a problem with nausea or anything and I guess it was a pretty cool experience, but it's still just a gimmicky effect.

I saw Avatar and A Christmas Carol in 3D and all I can tell it's stupid as shit. It's not cool at all and I hate how something that bland can get media and consumer attention.

I thought this stopped somewhere in the gayties or 90's when everyone realized those red-blue glasses were retarded, but no, it suddenly returned.

Volumetric display would only be useful for

1. tomographies
2. designing engines

Computers would only be useful for government labs and universities

if you're looking for a true 3d experience go to a stage show, your point is stupid. we don't see in three dimensions we have two eyes presented with a 2d image and depth is implied, which is what these 3d things do

yes but you can't walk around a 3D screen to look at it from another angle

sure you can move a camera around but fuck it's a lot cooler to have something you can physically walk around and look at

What I would really like is the ability to watch football with depth perception as a lot of the time you don't really know where the ball is going if it's a long shot across the pitch. That I would buy.

I thought you could already do that, just not from the comfort of your own home. Don't some theaters show football games in 3D?

Also the absolute best and most convincing 3D gaming experience will be one that combines headtracking with Nvidia's 3D vision. An ideal end result would be indistinguishable from real life, as the stereoscopic picture would adjust for your head position - the same way that we see different angles in real life by adjusting our head position. Obviously we're a long way away from "indistinguishable from real life"... screen resolutions and refresh rates are no where near what they need to be... and there is no headtracking standard that all games support.

If you want to know more about headtracking, I recommend Johnny Lee's video where he uses a Wiimote to headtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw

I've been following this. If the sequel to Mario Galaxy comes out and it doesn't support this, then I am quite literally done with Nintendo based franchises.

Also Mario Paint Wii.

What use would they have for headtracking and just HOW would they implement it in Mario?

Yeah, play with a wiimote, but to fully play the game, get another and strap it to your head~

Come on.

Unfortunately - just like Mr. L says, it'd be pretty unconventional without some sort of standard. If Nintendo doesn't come out with some sort of headtracking kit (maybe a Mario cap with the IR LEDs?) and doesn't support it themselves, it's not going to take off.

Headtracking is alive and well in the PC realm, particularly in flight sims. Check out the TrackIR 5. I want it, however it doesn't look like many games support a realistic mode that just adjusts the angle based on where your location is... most of the modes supported by the TrackIR 5 are more functional (ie turn head slightly left to look left in game).

theatres aren't set up for people walking around for a reason (it sucks when people walk around)

this latest 3d technology where all you have to do is don lightweight glasses is most likely to take off because TVs were headed that way (faster Faster FASTER) and it really doesn't require anything from the consumer or producer. aren't those nvidea shutter things compatible with anything 3d pretty much? your computer renders the full scene all it has to do is show you the same scene from a centimetre sideways.

i don't think this will be WHOA MIND BLOWING but more likely at best WASD controls where it just sort of becomes standard and it's really awkward and irritating switching back

because the only games it could really be used in RTS's where the perspective isn't fixed anyway? i only see disadvantages in it taking up physical space
