Arcanum is right up your alley dude. Actually I'd say it's right up Hundley's alley too. It was made by the same people that made Fallout and does the whole social issue thing as well or maybe even better than Fallout. It's really good because unlike Fallout where you'd go from town to town and each one would have a different social theme, the whole game is about them. I think the biggest are racism, the emergence of capitalism, and class stratification through labor exploitation. It's got a sort of Victorian industrial revolution steampunk setting, which is kind of awful but it does it well and uses the setting for more than just stupid magical guns or whatever.

It's got three of the best quests I've ever seen in any game and I think it's worth playing just to see these three. I don't want to give too much away so I guess I'll just tell a little about them. The first is this quest about the skulls of these Siamese twins, which leads you to discovering how a cabal of Gnomish (Jewish???) oligarchs did some terrible things to engineer a behind-the-scenes capitalist revolution. I don't want to go on because this quest is so wrenching and well done and I don't want to ruin it. It easily could have been its own game. Another is a quest where you negotiate the terms of a treaty between two kingdoms, which is a really neat thing to do in a game, and the last is one where you deal with an orc civil rights and union activist.

So if you can tolerate the dumb setting and sometimes excessive fantasy garbage, you'll find a really neat game that expands on ideas that only Fallout has ever touched on.

ps stupid people will tell you that the game is about the struggle between magic and technology or whatever, but these are clearly metaphors for tradition vs innovation, the past vs the future, and even feudalism vs democracy. it's an okay game with great ideas and probably the best writing and intentions pf any game other than fallout!!

pps if you play the game, you have to play as a half orc.

ppps or a retard, i've heard it's really funny.

ahahahahahahaha

in arcanum when you're making your character, you have the option of selecting a character's background that acts sort of like traits when you're making your guy in fallout. this guy made up a bunch of backgrounds that aren't actually in the game about asperger's syndrome.

DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS. Shit, this game is AMAZING, it's a single-player gigantic RPG that every living thing needs to experience
but also doesn't fit the requirements in the op
Yeah Nemesis, don't you pay attention to the topic? Dragon Age: Origins is also on the console, so don't mention it.

Why does it make a difference if the game also has a console version? I though he meant no console games, not no games that may have been ported to console. Dragon Age is definately a very pc oriented game. It's the same with morrrowind, it had an xbox port but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be mentioned, right?

Maybe he has every console game.

Why does why even matter? It's just a condition he set.  There must be a reason for it.

probably because if it has a console version he'd rather play it on a console, and he's just asking for pc-exclusive games

i did kinda like arcanum, but i found the way the game was physically put together really jarring and unintuitive. i remember finding it really tough actually progressing through the game because of the sheer amount of stuff they throw at you. it felt very messy, like it was tough to play in a way where you weren't doing lots of mundane item-based tasks and grinding. it was a shame too, because i really enjoyed the style of it and the way a lot of the game worked.

i think i might give it another try, if only because i've actually forgotten the full extent of why i found it so tough to get into. i may have been approaching it wrong. do you have any suggestions for a good playthrough?

Red Alert 3.

I never thought I'd say that. I was certain EA games had ruined a good franchise when they ate westwood studios all those years ago but I have given it a go and it's really really good.

Nothing will ever be on par with RA2 as that was the perfect RTS (imo) but I think RA3 is miles better than most RTS games out there.

You're not interacting with anyone on GW because nobody reads your posts.

The big problem with the game is that the combat and mechanics are just awful. It's like Fallout Tactics in that you can switch from real-time combat to turn-based, but both are just awful. I sort of want to suggest cheating so you can zoom through all the combat portions and skip to everything else. It's really frustrating because the worst part of the game is in the very beginning, right after you finish Tarant. You have to go to this abandoned dwarf clan that is this massive dungeon that takes forever and is really hard. It's awful. If you can get through this, the rest of the game (until about the last 1/4th, which is bad again) is pretty interesting. If you're not going to cheat, you should probably be a wizard and put your points into necromantic white and black. Harm is easily the best spell in the game and you should abuse it. You should also put all of your points into charisma and persuasion. This lets you have more party members and if you've got a lot, you can just stand there and let them fight for you. This is what I always do. Also like I said before, you should play as a half-orc. You won't get the full impact of the game unless every single person in it hates you.

Also the Shrouded Hills part is pretty boring and is a lot like Arroyo in Fallout but longer. If you can make it through that and get to Tarant, you've made it to the best part in the game. Tarant is pretty much the whole point of Arcanum. It's New York City in the middle of the Industrial Revolution and it's supposed to be huge and disorienting and sort of intimidating. Other places like Dernholm and Caladon are interesting, but Tarant is What The Game Is About, so I guess if you get there and you don't like it, you might as well stop playing because it's the most important part.

So I guess that's it. Cheat if you feel like it, be a half orc, put points into charisma and magic, and be tolerant of a really bad combat system.
