i'm sorry that i went through my old topics, i am an egotistic person, but i saw this and i am going to make good topics again like i did before and i thought this would be a good one to bring up again because this sad shit?

heck, i know a who is actually in afghanistan and are you kidding me. he is the dumbest guy around - look, he is a nice man. he's a 21 year old kid who had a fucked up life where certain important people killed themselves and i saw that and then i checked out cos i had to get on with things. two years later, going back, he's 22 months into his tour. i love that. i love that he will be bad soon, not that i was ever best pals but we were friends. and he'll be back in 6 weeks.

what i'm saying is, when do you make some noise about it. cos this is darren. that's his name. he has friend who love him more than i do but of course i would give big things if i knew he was gonna be okay, but he's a dumb kid man! he doesn't know what the hell is happening over there. it's such a small ideam and he keeps saying things like SAND HELL christ he sees nothing just like we don't. okay this is definitely mid thrust but i'm gonna end this now.

If something personally bothers me, than I'll usually say something.  One thing I'll usually do, in the case of someone saying "I hate X", I'll usually ask them why. (If its someone I don't know, or will probably never see again, I'll ignore it)  If they respond something along the lines of "I just hate X" or "I dunno" I'll usually ignore it at that point, since they're probably just seeing a stereotype or something.

There's really nothing that sets me off anymore...  Thanks internet

shit I forgot what I was going to say I dunno I guess atm I'm just trying to have neutral interests like I dunno COOKING right now so I don't feel pushed into this corner must have all socially responsible interests so I can get my social responsibility on but yeah sometimes I wonder what has been stewing in people's heads sometimes my brother might seriously believe in 2012 apocalypse so yeah I try not to be too judgemental because even if someone is horrible mysogynist like a lot of things happen to a person in a lifetime but life keeps trying to force me into these situations i.e. my brother who I can't really shrug off smiles and nods. but yeah sometimes GW internet nerd culture is kind of stupid I think we're all just over mediaconsumption like those types always strike me as the kind who often think 'wow hitler was a really bad guy I'll be careful not to be a hitler' plays first-person shooter in chernoboyl-like sci-fi environment. uh there is a point to last sentence like being righteous in hyperbole and without much insight because mass media has made us really neurotic?? I dunno

and it's really immature but most internet sayings seem like a pretty good summary of stuff that would be awesome to say in real life, like there aren't really any original ideas but they often are the absolute perfect way to get it across to my internet nerd sensibilities. like 'cool story bro' like if Obama said that during 2012 debates my mind would explode

also YOUR OPINION IS WRONG

I never really tell people when they're stupid, especially when they're people I don't know. I travel to college everyday by bus and train and hear lots of different things, some stupid things too. However, either I plain ignore it or I just think to myself "what a dumbass" without saying anything. I never feel the need to force my opinion onto people I don't know, or to make them feel bad.

basically you guys hit it on the head if there was a way to disagree even be rude to someone and yet EXPAND THEIR MIND at the same time I would bother to get into an argument with someone but I don't think even with my huge GW user brain I can make any statement that would like BLOW THEIR MIND or ROCK THEIR WORLD like such and such said I guess you could make someone feel ashamed at least.

hey anybody ever been to sunday school or somewhere and there is that saying "Lord give me the strength to accept the things I cannot change etc. etc." when they wrote that they were talking about ignorant assholes

but yeah I just hate being all 'silently thinks 'what a dumbshit' to self in the corner of the bus' I'm kind of of the opinion now at least rude people are more honest with themselves or something this is why bill maher sucks whether you believe in atheism as good/bad cause or whatever he's trying to sell himself as a comedian (I think) when he's not really funny he's just this rude opinionated guy and I think it's just more profitable to call himself a comedian or something

also our ancestors fought for the right for us to be assholes to anyone we feel like back during colonial times you couldn't be an asshole to a briton or you would get shot or something so we should exercise our right to piss off the british whenever we feel like it (hey Kaworu go suck a cheetah's dick)

Edit: besides bill maher other people who shouldn't attempt to inject humor while promoting their opinions/philosophy: DJ Shadow

edit: sometimes by being the kind of person who would be on GW I do kind of feel like I've kind of had my run of a lot of things that are still like UNIQUE to 99% of real people and we are sort of always peeling back layers like lol what is this Pitchfork you speak off???? But Pitchfork in itself is better than I dunno Rolling Stone or something? I use Firefox but I figure there's like 10 better/more efficient browsers at least. but also makes us susceptible to really getting into stupid but 'unique' film premises like Primer mexican psychedelic films from the 60's. also The Fountain lol

^ if any of the above films are actually subjectively good sorry about that they all reek of weary of conventional cinema + lazy internet film research to me

I rarely bother unless it's about something that neither I nor the other person really cares that much about and we can have a civil discussion or I can make a quick joke and  we can both have a laugh about it, but every once in a while somebody says something so hypocritical I have to be like hold up like there's this really fundamentalist "born again" Christian conservative in a couple of my classes and the other day he said "Muslims are at war with America" and I stopped him but normally I just kind of silently cringe at everything he says.

general rule of thumb is: if people think you're obnoxious in some way, you've done something wrong. regardless of who you're talking to. a good strategy is to try and get people to explain the concept or their opinion to you as if you're entirely new to it. that gives you an excuse to tell them it sounds awful to you. just barging in and arguing is a good way to get people to build a huge wall of excuses around whatever it is they believe in. or just plain telling you you're a prick for quarreling over personal opinions. and that's not worth it, ever.

yeah man this would be one of those cases where I don't really care about repercussions. say that when I'm around and you're gonna get some serious lip from me.

neoliberals want to get rid of the BBC? reply "yeah, because having four extra Channel 4s is such a great idea." neocons trying to make the case for attacking Iran? "the last two wars were disasters in every conceivable way, but I'm sure you'll get it right the third time." I realize these are very negative, sarcastic arguments (and also kind of fallacies) but this tends to work the best and it's a very succinct way of bringing across the main counterargument.
yeah i know just what you mean, firing across the bows

not sure I would classify it that way. the thing is that it's kind of a tu quoque to make these arguments so you could easily make the case that it's an intellectually dishonest way to argue, but it kind of depends on what kind of situation you're in.  :welp:
