Over the past few decades, we've seemed to have advanced in many aspects of gaming. Online functionality, Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Systems. But one thing that I feel about us going backwards on is cooperative gaming. What I mean by that is 4 people playing splitscreen on one system. I usually have about 2-3 people over randomly for gaming nights, and playing MW2 or Halo3 over and over gets kinda boring. When I had xboxlive, we would be able to play 4 player online in halo. But that got boring for everyone because they wanted to level up their characters and they called me an asshole for being the only one able to  :welp: .

So today I went into Ebgames and looked to buy splitscreen games that would either be us facing each other or going through on missions [I usually dont buy games lol but they had a sale; 3 for 50, 2 for 30, buy one get 2nd half, buy 2 get 1 free etc etc.] . So I ask the lady at the counter if there are such games for the 360 that enable 4 player coop playability. She said that game companies dont make those kinds of games anymore because it would take away from the graphics. Not believing here, I searched through a lot of 360 games. Surprisingly, a lot of them DID have coop 2-4, but ONLY online through live. wtf wtf. You'd think as gaming progressed, more features would be added rather than taken out. Hell even MW2 will not let you system link splitscreen. You can only connect ONE person through ONE xbox in a lan, which is complete bullshit.

So I searched and searched, and found only sport games and one war game (GRAW2) that had coop 4 playability on the same system [or ][/or]. The only splitscreen games I found aside from that were random war games (Op Flashpoint, Brother in Arms etc). I dont want these when I have MW2 it would defeat the whole purpose of finding new games to play.

I walked out of Ebgames empty handed and kind of disappointed in gaming. What happened to Gauntlet? Fuzion Frenzy? Hunter The Reckoning? Black Steel? Those types of games on the older generation of systems that immersed four people simultaneously on the same system. It pisses me off more than it should.

And now I ask the people of GamingW. I doubt any of you will answer back with X360 titles, but now I ask, can you recommend me 4 player coop/party games that are out there? Or even splitscreen (good) games. I am willing to switch consoles to play them. Listing Original Xbox games is an asset but not necessarily the only thing. Also your opinion on this matter could be posted for further reading. Thank you.

Games I already own/play/played
Gauntlet Legends
Hunter The Reckoning
Black Steel
Mario Party Series
Turok Series
Golden Eye
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Perfect Dark (the x360 one sucked balls split screen)
Smash Tv
Vigilante 8
Halo Series
Unreal Tournament/Championship
Power Stone Series
Cell Damage
Borderlands

Also minirant; left 4 dead, only 2 players offline. why the fuck would you call a game left 4 dead and have 4 playable characters and not have 4 fucking splitscreens. this game pissed me off a lot. Wasnt even that great online either.

borderlands is tons of fun for short stretches in coop. significantly less fun without.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

man, i don't even know. i can't think of any games that have 4 player same-screen coop that you haven't listed. maybe Battlefront? it's really awful though.

I don't play a whole lot of multiplayer/co-op games, but the one I always recommend is Twisted: The Game Show.  I'm pretty sure the existing 3DO emulator runs it, so you shouldn't have to buy anything to play it.  It's really CHARMING I guess you could say, it is really repetitive if you play it all the time but if you just play it every now and then you and your mates will have a good laugh with it.  The only other games I can think of that I play with my friends (because my friends are for the most part not gamers) are Mario Party, which you already listed, and then WarioWare Smooth Moves and Trauma Center: New Blood, both of which are for the Wii.

edit: let me specify though that Twisted is a sort of take-turns-with-minigames type game, so it is multiplayer but not everyone doing things at the exact same time, so idk if this is what you wanted or not.  But if simultaneous play isn't something you're concerned with, I also want to say hot-seat-based Worms World Party.  Q.E.D.

hmm I shall give Twisted a try. I'll set up the emu and rom for tomorrow night see if the guys like it :D. thanks.
WarioWare looks interesting but I dont see how Trauma Center would be multiplayer. do you just take turns being the dude? I remember playing it for the DS which was a blast til I beat it.

Trauma Center: New Blood has a co-op mode.  It's two player only, but basically you're both playing at the same time which not only makes a lot of the stuff a little easier but is also very, very fun.  If you're going for co-op make sure to get this one and not Second Opinion.  But yeah, definitely fun co-op, a lot moreso than single player even.

It's been a while since I tried the 3DO emulator, but I remember trying it once and everything worked great then trying it again and it didn't work at all.  Hopefully you don't have this problem, I seem to remember maybe it used some sort of weird CD-rom drivers or something that I couldn't get working.  I don't know, just try it out.  The nice thing about Twisted is that it was made in a way that you only needed one controller to play it with up to 4 players (you just passed the controller around), so you don't have to set up some weird control system on the emu.

yeah I just got FreeDO but now its asking for Bios which im guessing im going to have to find through illegal means. and holy crap this game is huge in terms of file size (for an older game). im dl'ing part 1 of 9 and the first piece is 40 mb. very unexpected. Mind you this will be my first 3DO gaming experience. if you have any other 3DO game suggestions let me know. not necessarily multiplayer ones as I want to try this system out for myself.

The 3DO was at the height of the FMV game fad so the large amount of video files is probably why the files are so big.  Here's a quick list of the 3DO games I'd recommend (some of these weren't 3DO-exclusive so you may or may not prefer to play them on a different platform):

Alone in the Dark
Brain Dead 13 (I know that the version I had of this game was bugged to be unbeatable, but idk if there was ever a working one...if there's not there's a PC version)
D (didn't play this but i've heard nothing but good things about it)
Dragon's Lair
Guardian War
Night Trap (lol)
Out of this World
Samurai Shodown
Shock Wave
Slayer
Soccer Kid
Theme Park
Wing Commander 3

I am pretty sure you can find roms of all of these, I don't think any of them were horribly obscure.  There was also a game called Snow Job for the 3DO that I haven't played that sounded interesting but could end up being very terrible.  Also if you want a JOKE of a game you can play Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, but it's really more like a really terrible x-rated slideshow with awful dialogue, so you're better off just watching the youtube clips of it.

nice i'll try some of those out. Ive played Out of this world and Samurai Showdown on the snes (samurai showdown moreso). These download interval times off romsites are killer :( . I'm guessing theme park is like theme hospital and the likes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Theme Park was made by the same group as Theme Hospital.  And yeah, there's nothing special about the 3DO versions of these games except that the 3DO was more powerful so there are graphical differences but nothing much else.  The 3DO only had a small handful of really good exclusive games but those few games were really cool.  Also I forgot all about Kingdom: The Far Reaches, definitely get that one.  I was going off of the wikipedia list so I could remember them but it had quite a few games missing.

edit: found a better list, the only other one I know of that I missed going from it was Horde, which there's a PC version of but I never got it to work properly in DOSbox.
