okay, so i ordered these parts off NCIX:

now, i got them all, put them in a case, plugged everything in etc

started it up, and it would, then it would just get into a reboot loop, with like 1-2second delay between reboots

so i checked all the cables, all were properly done etc

had no idea what was wrong, so i unplugged the cpu power, and it ran without problem(well, ran as in just got power), plugged it back in, reboot loop

so to see what the f is going on, i went to a buddies house, and he started off by checking the PSU for any off numbers, i was all in the green

so next we put my processor in one of his slightly older gigabyte motherboards, and it ran fine, and he put the core 2 duo that he had in his into my mobo, my computer booted fine etc etc, he booted up his, and his computer booted up fine with my cpu

so what could possibly be wrong? which part should i be RMA'ing?

also, as an off question: how does ExpressRMA work/is it helpful in my situaion D:

what does it boot into? does it just pass POST then ask for a disc?

unless you mean with the other CPU that i tried, it got to asking for a disc

Like most problems that occur with new builds, it's probably the motherboard bios that needs to be updated by flashing.

I'm not sure if you can even flash the bios if it won't POST though...

if you can't do this because your computer won't boot.... use your friends core 2 duo processor.. install windows on the HDD and update the bios through windows.. then it should recognize your Quad core just fine...

well, the whole bios thing, none of the new versions of the BIOS change cpu compatibility, mine is compatible from the get go according to the list!!! D:

Your problem might be that one of the RAM sticks or slots is bad... try just one stick of RAM and try different slots. You wouldn't believe how not uncommon this is.

If it still doesn't work, it's just another thing you've checked off the list.

does the cpu fan spin up straight away? since it doesn't even POST a bios problem is still most likely. your psu should provide more than enough power and you've ruled out hardware problems. it could be that your motherboard doesn't like your ram and cpu frequency combo but that's pretty unlikely.

okay, so it turns out its the PSU

my friend threw in one of his and it ended up working 100% fine, memtested and everything else is fine, so its PSU gonna pick up a cheap one at staples while i RMA this one, then return when it comes back !!!

while reading the post just now i got the idea it might have been the psu, since it does seem like ur hardware is rather power intensive. im curious as to how much power ur friends psu has?

your components won't draw more than 600 watts especially on boot, but the output on the +12v rail must be too low if it's your psu. check the sticker on the side, it should list individual rail output, so that's what you're looking for in a new one

yeah my "good" one, that is being replaced right now through the wonderful world of mail had the right amounts psu was just not working right, and even said HEY SUPPORTS NEW INTEL CPU STUFF!!! this crappy one im using as a replacement while im waiting works fine until that one comes back
