I really don't understand how this is supposed to compete with a netbook (or anything really) when it doesn't even support multitasking.  I can understand the the iPhone and Ipod Touch lacking true multitasking, but there is really no excuse for this not to.

ereaders are cheaper/longer battery life, smartphones can do the browsing-on-the-go, the ipod is an attractive portable media player because it can fit in a pocket, and laptops/netbooks are much more useful for productivity and mobile computing....

i don't know what market this thing is going for, but maybe they can pull it off as a netbook alternative if they manage to rig a bluetooth keyboard up to it and make a little stand/prop

It's going to have one of these on release I think it says on the op link. Still worse than a netbook in nearly every way though

the whole idea of it being used for ebooks is fucking retarded imo and kinda ignores why ereaders are so attractive in the first place. who wants to read a book on a backlit LCD??

I don't know then. I think this might do well as a netbook. The only netbook I ever touched froze instantly. I think people at apple are really smart and maybe they're seeing something most people aren't. Think about the ideal internet browsing device for when you're in the toilet. This is it.

Yes, this announcement was very underwhelming. I don't even know what to make of what they showed... it's a gorgeous device sure, and it'd be cool in some instances. I bet when you hold this thing you're like HOLY SHIT WANT but yeah the lack of Flash, USB, and multi-tasking make this a disappointment. Also would have preferred OSX.

I think it's ok to get rid of flash. It's only used for ads, youtube videos and games. Youtube already works without flash.

The iPad's only really got one accessory port, and it takes an iPod dock connector. Apple's solution for this? Adapters!

Well it was mostly a familiarity thing. I'm a designer - I know Flash a lot better than the intimidating CSS and XHTML. That said, Flash can be very eye-catching (and easily downright gaudy) and behaves consistent across all platforms.
