i have watched all of limmy's show and it's really grown on me. even the parts that are maybe not so funny or that all that well done usually have some sort of identifiable thought process going on behind them that makes them worth watching. the show as a whole is really an existential nightmare, and i mean that in a good way.

i'm surprised you like it so much, but on the other hand i'm not surprised at all. i had a look at what other scottish comedians are around right now and there have been a few pilots/series going but they are all atrocious. they all kind of know each other but i supposed you'd expect that since glasgow only has about a million people and not a huge entertainment industry (as far as i know).

i have tried so hard to like this, but i really can't.

don't get me wrong, i think it is excellent that limmy has made this show, as it is very different and does not cater to the MASS DOMAIN or whatever, and i do have a lot of respect for him as a comedian. he's made the break to television without losing his style. and there are moments which are hilarious, such as the 12;34;56 sketch. but as a whole, i really can't stand it. i find myself cringing awfully at him, as a lot of his sketches that maybe have potential are executed so poorly, and in such a contrived manner, especially when he repeats words over and over, that it really ruins it. that and the obvious awful stereotype sketches he does. i have tried to like it so much because i like limmy as a character, but it's just not clicking for me.

out of the episodes I've seen (3 now) none of the sketches were awful but almost all of them felt incomplete or otherwise lacking. a significant part of many of his sketches relies on drawing things out, something that has never really amused me in any comedy. it's not as bad as like Family Guy or even some of Mr. Show's worst sketches but it definitely keeps me from enjoying a lot of his show. repetition is another big one for him and it's just not good it's dumb

but I still find myself liking limmy and wanting to see more of his show so he must be doing a lot of things right

edit: I Watched More Clips And I Liked Them

not at all. it's jean michel jarre, who i guess is a fairly well-known artist even if he's not quite a household name. a lot of people seem to regard him as one of the pioneers of electronic music. i actually know him more as the son of maurice jarre, who did the music for movies like dr. zhivago and lawrence of arabia, but jean is pretty good in his own right i think.

the music is from an album he did in the late 70s called oxygene, which was kinda his big break, and a very popular album at the time. it's pretty surprising he chose to use this, since he probably had to pay a bit for the rights rather than just dropping pocket change for some royalty-free music. it's imho an rather good album if you have any taste for very early synthesizer music.

the first musical passage is from the song oxygene 4 and the rest is oxygene 1. i could hook you up if you wanted it for some reason

Because it's on the Beeb they will get free usage. As described by Charlie Brooker on Screenwipe.
