This release makes me happy. Before now people could forgive the shitty new titles because they had absolutely no connection with the originals.

Complain all they want, I can lump Sonic 4 in with Sonics 1, 2 and 3 and there isn't shit they can say to stop me!

Any time anyone tries to contrast anything Sonic related with the "original" games and talk about how they keep missing the mark, I am going to mention this game as one of them, so I can immediately start making comparisons that I'll generalize across all 4 titles in the "original" sonic series.

Obviously I can't really comment NDA blah blah blah. Gameplay looks fun.

Well the 3D games have taken a drastic change compared to past Sonic games. The only ones I really absolutely despised this gen was Sonic 06, and I also like Secret Rings more than Black Knight. No matter what though, my main beef with them is that the a lot of series' staples are either marginalized or put out there in a way that makes some things less fun to play around with. For instance, Super Sonic has become a power relegated entirely to the final zone for some epic showdown with the game's final boss. The only time I didn't mind it was the final showdown in Secret Rings because Sonic actually gained a new power in that one... well he did in Dark Knight too but being encased in golden armor was pretty lame and entirely expected.

I'm looking forward to this though, hopefully it turns out well.

Yeah, but how old is the name Nerd or Trekkie? Gaming might go mainstream, but so did --for this argument--star trek. Gamer is someone who plays games in a big way. Casual Gamer is just anyone who plays games once in a blue moon or whatever. It's also a sort of self-imposed social status or moniker. Your teacher doesn't know what 4chan is probably though, so I can't blame him/her.

Edit: also I think the term for someone who sits around watching TV all day is a couch potato.

Yeah there is, its' what people call 3d graphics on a 2d plane IE you don't get to interact with the z axis at all. 2.5d is more punchy. You knew that dietcoke.

The only Sonic game I ever really got into was Sonic 2, I think, the one with Tails. Tails was awesome, and I always played the game with my best friend. Good memories. Other than playing next to a good friend, I find the Sonic games really boring. That's probably just me, though.

I'm sorry, I simply cannot in good conscience get behind this new addition to the Sonic franchise. Not only are SEGA persisting with the hideous next-gen Sonic design (you call those spikes? please) but the usage of S&K-era jump physics and coin movements, coupled with the reviled 'autodash' feature , make it impossible to see this as anything other than a deliberate slap in the face to the Sonic fan community. Get a grip, guys.

seriously complaining that it's 2.5d and looks kinda hideous is not an overly stupid thing to do. it DOES look pretty hideous, and the inclusion of dumb moves made up once the games started sucking IS a bad thing. i dont see how its different than complaining about any other game (which people also do!!)

it still seems a little bizarre and petty honestly when if i remember right sonic games have been about werewolf sonic with a sword and dual pistols and some horrible elaborate canon garbage for the past decade or so and a deliberate attempt to go back to retro styleee is met with a pretty exaggerated UGGGHHHHHH over something pretty superficial. its like looking at those new monkey island games coming out and going GUYBRUSH HAS A GOATEE?? eh, all im saying is a goatee and the homing attack which was one of the worst choices in the dreamcast sonics are not on the same level.

and yes, all of those things you listed have happened, and are kinda why anything bad about this one seems 1000x worse than it probably is. they have destroyed any credibility of being able to make good games in the last 10 years!!
