i like disco

actually i'm just starting to get into the genre as of a few hours ago and i fwiggen love it. i have giorgio moroder - from here to eternity, cerrone - love in c minor, and blkjgf a bunch of stuff i took from scaruffi's list of the best disco. but instead of just going down that list and downloading everything i thought that maybe i can get some recommendations? maybe some insightful discoussion (LMAO!)? ii just want to listen to disco forever

heres a picture of giorgio moroder that i thought would make this op look cooler if you didn't read it

i know like nothing from that list :( i really ought to check some more of this stuff out though because i usually enjoy a lot of what i hear and always feel a lil bit.......rockist lol for being so ignorant about it.

i really like a lot of the uh MUTANT DISCO (a horrible term but still better than DANCE PUNK) stuff from new york in the early eighties. they call it mutant but a lot of it is just regular fun danceable music.

the sound quality for this video is terrible but lizzy mercier descloux's "press color" album is really good

cristina monet's second album is one of my favorites ever because its no so much dance as a really awful parody of the whole disco thing. like 'mutant disco' as a label is pretty dumb but thats what it sounds like! radioactive slime disco. her first album is not as good but probably more what you're looking for. this song rules

i dont know the garcons too well but this song is excellent

obligatory james chance/white song

also ESG liquid liquid etc i guess. if you liked the above at all there's a compilation called 'mutant disco' which is pretty good and has a lot of this stuff on it, also the 'new york noise' compilations from soul jazz have a lot of great stuff although it's a little noisier.

I wasn't entirely sure this wasn't a joke thread because I've always heard disco's crap don't bother with disco. I liked hercules and love affair but I assumed they just salvaged some of the style while pretty much doing their own thing. but I downloaded grace jone's first album which according to that list in the op is her best disco release, and I really like some of the songs. they're all covers I think. I don't know if this applies to all disco, but what immediately strikes me is how smooth it is. there is nothing jarring or upsetting about it besides the occasional offbeat vocal. it's like fantasy music. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but right now I'm liking it and I think I'm just gonna continue with the grace jones discog instead of exploring other disco artists. only her first 3 albums are supposed to be disco, the others are new wave and other stuff

forgot to mention one reason I like her is because she seems like a nutcase.

~genres~ but yeah i wasn't sure if i should bring up that stuff because i think disco is more associated with smoother studio work etc. Although I think you could trace a clear enough line through disco to the "mutant disco"/"dance punk" stuff like Cristina and August Darnell stuff etc which is basically a cross between disco and the uh very percussive stripped-down spikey sound of ESG Contortions etc and from there into the more postpunky stuff, a lot of which had a big disco influence anyway. So while I wouldn't particularly call them disco bands I wouldn't say they're completely irrelevent to a discussion of this stuff either!
