I need to burn a disc that has a long disc name. But windows XP and Vista only support up to like 12-15 or something, and Nero is the same. Is there some other software that can extend the maximum characters for disc names without shortening it afterwards (ex. "disc file name for this disc" , "disc file name for t-") or some kind of settings I'm not seeing for Xp/Vista?

yeah windows and nero limit it to 15 characters. i think really old versions of nero may support it, and roxio might, but i'm not sure. i wouldn't risk it for compatibility reasons though! you might blow up a dvd drive!!!

I think there are several different file systems you can use for DVD's and one of them supports long names.

there's joilet and UDF and i think UDF supports longer names but both of them support longer than 15 character volume names iirc, the limit is imposed by software. i think in nero if you set the view to iso level 1 it'll display longer names but i think it still truncates them.

i haven't burnt a disc in years and the only reason i do is to play it on dvd players, which usually chop the name even shorter anyhow.

yeah I normally wouldnt care about the length, but I have to burn projects to CD/DVD for class and the names have to be like 30 characters long. i'll try the imgburn thanks.
