Anime why do laptops use socket cpus? (Read 806 times)

yeah it's always been the case and i don't know why acorn didn't do so much better. my 8mhz A3000 running risc os 1 ran circles around my 66mhz 486 with windows 3.1/95. games especially but doing anything at all was just so much faster

Just like how the power PC is better then x86, the only reason apple switched to Intel was because of cost (conformist dirtbags) i think they use sockets because it's easier then to not because with a socket it just fits in, no need to solder the component but with out it you have to take time to solder it.

apple switched to intel because the power pc wasn't keeping up to performance, and it's much more complicated/time consuming building the socket that's SOLDERED ON than attaching a chip permanently

huh guess i was wrong on both acounts, but i thought apple switched becuase it was cheaper to use intel, power PC has always been a a good performing architecture.

the IBM POWER chips that were being put in the G5 computers were actually pretty decent and compare pretty well with some of today's intel chips, the issue was with laptops and general supply. They had lower yields and nowhere near the sophistication or capacity to punch out as many chips as intel could
