I'm 22, I haven't done a single thing really since August 2009. Applied to med. school and got in, so I decided to treat myself and take a year off and do absolutely nothing until till August when classes start (and boy will they ever start).

So far, aside from interviewing and traveling here and there, I've seriously just been GAMING to no end. So far, I've played and beaten Magna Carta 2, Fall out 3, Uncharted 1 and 2, Army of 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance, Bioshock, Last Remnant, Dragon Age, Resident Evil 5, and am working on Mass Effect right now. In the coming months, I plan on playing Mass Effect 2, FFXIII (obviously), Resonance of Fate, Dragon Age: Awakening, and MAYBE White Knight Chronicles and Bioshock 2... so I'll be busy before I have to lock up my game systems in a safe and throw the key out.

I've also been juggling LOST, FlashForward, V, Office, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Parks and Recreation, Community, Modern Family, Important Things, Family Guy, and 24... which has been a lot of work, seriously.

Aside from interviewing, other productive things I've been doing are... keeping up with politics , reading biochemistry/physiology/microbiology to prepare for classes, but definitely not finding a job cause work sucks.

What would you do if you have 1 full year to kick back and do whatever?

I started my 1 year off october 2009. Im still enjoying it. just like you, I'm gaming a lot. As well have been recording songs and what not with a couple of friends. I'm still looking for a job so I can get my camry back. It sucks having a lot of spare time but no wheels to enjoy it with. I've been taking it pretty easy lately. Got a gym routine working for me and also watching a lot of tv shows that I would normally not watch (ie. Supernatural, The Office etc.)

I would probably spend a lot of my time finishing all of the projects that I really want to finish but have no time for. After all of those were done I would probably get a job to fill up the rest of the time. Otherwise just some lazy stuff like watch TV, play games. You know; the usual.

No-one, on their death bed ever said "My only regret is not playing more video-games"

If I had a year off, I'm not sure what I'd do. I'd probably end up just being a missionary or something? I'd like to take at least one mission trip in my life so a year off would probably be the ideal time to do it in. I've got friends who have been to places like Kenya and Peru and they all say the times they had their were amazing experiences and really beneficial spiritually. Yeah, that's what I'd but but I'm really bonkers.

I would hopefully take that time to work together with talented individuals to create interesting projects. I've been trying to do this but failing due to being so damn busy all the time. I've been meaning to make a PHP framework with Cliff, a game with Hundley, a retro game site with Drule, plus a bunch of other projects with both people I know online and people I know offline. Then there's the sheer amount of personal projects I've had going.

So in the end, I'd probably end up doing much of the same as what I'm doing right now, except far more interesting and unpaid.

Yeah, there definitely is a lot of "better" things I could be doing. Gaming is a pretty lame activity by a lot of other people's standards... but really, when I look at it, this'll be the last time I'll really have a lot of time to do what I want until I'm 65 and retired. ...Honestly, that's not an exaggeration.

hahaha, yeah I know, I should reflect about life... and I do. Life's about to change, it already has, but I'm going to leave home, move a 1000 miles away and start something I've fought to start for 4 years, it's exciting! But... I guess for the MAJORITY of the time, I goof off

wouldnt do sheeit

I'm intending to spend a year or two volunteering abroad somewhere once I leave college so maybe that idk. Most of them seem to require either a degree or a year of prior experience and I'm kind of skeptical about the ones that don't anyway!! bored college kids shlupping around starving villages in $100,000 jeeps. mmmm yeeess what a.....powerful life experience im having *steps over corpse in street*. I still want to try it though because either way it'd have to be better than just sitting in front of a fucking computer.

Sweet mother of mercy a year off? I'd do all the things that people consider a waste of time that I took for granted now that I work a 12 hour shift job. I'd literally count each hour in that year, because that's how I do this jobs hours vs my free time.

I'd play "crappy free MMO's" like Wonderking and S4 League more often and work on my rpg maker game that I never finished. If I had money I'd want to travel and meet people I know online just to mess with them. A year off is like the best thing to you once you realize that you WILL have to work in life or get lucky and be rich in a sense. I know many will say "then work for something you enjoy" which is true, but sadly I can't find what I enjoy waking up to, maybe a year off would help me decide.  :welp:

I'm coming back to read through this but I gotta go workin again real soon.

If I had the money to do this then I would lock myself away in the middle of nowhere with some food and a guitar, plus a bunch of other instruments I wanna learn (harmonica, banjo, fiddle) and not leave until I learned music theory and mastered each instrument because I want to write my own music along with good lyrics there is nothing I want to do more then just jam the fuck out anywhere and sound awesome and get to tour or write my own album one day.

I want to be a blues king and a folk fiend and I wanna rock out with my cock out until I get knocked out

I'd travel the US via cheap ways like riding a bike places or taking megabus to cities in the Midwest I've never been to.  Once I get to those cities I'd just walk around taking pics and going to eat and stuff like that.  Obviously with friends :)

honestly, i don't think i'd take one.  Like i'd just feel lazy doing nothing, and the things that i'd do in my free time are mostly the same things i'd want to do in the future anyways, so it would seem like not that much of a thing

I'm hopefully taking another year off next year and I'm going to book a ticket around the world. I think it should have about 7 different stops. That's if my plans work out of course.
