Hey I have a Q6600 that I've normally been able to keep clocked at a good 3.2 ghz with absolutely no problems, but the other day I bought an HD4890 video card on open-box special and now my CPU won't budge from it's stock speed. I can't change the FSB a single Mhz or else the thing won't POST. I swapped out the video card with my old 8800gt and everything is back to normal so I'm positive that's the troublemaker, I've even tried just about every BIOS revision for the board!

Should I just RMA the thing and get something else or is there something I'm missing? It's not a huge deal, but I deal with a lot of compressing and decompressing large amounts of data for work and I've noticed a significant performance decrease here and I'd like to squeeze all the performance I can out of this thing to postpone upgrading as long as possible.

I wonder if it's because they'd pull more amperes than the psu can handle so the motherboard is just trying to keep itself alive?
Play Raimond Ex (if you haven't already)

I'll not TAKE ANYTHING you write like this seriously because it looks dumb

well the PSU is a corsair 750 watt that could theoretically run another videocard in SLI or whatever. All I have hooked up to it is the disc drive, the motherboard, two hard drives, the videocard, 3 regular case fans, USB mouse, keyboard, and wireless dongle.

Yeah that should be drawing no where near your 750 watts. Perhaps it is just a fluke with the motherboard or something? This is a really bizarre problem.

Yeah the more I play with it the more I am beginning to think it could be the MB, the video card works just fine so far.

I dunno I guess I'll rma it and get a 5 series card or something and if it still acts funky I'll just deal with it or upgrade the rest of the damn computer with my tax return. Hell, maybe I could even write it off for next year.

Knowing my luck with computer hardware i probably will. Will they replace it or could I potentially be flushing 300 bucks down the toilet with this plan?

Well, right now I'm using 9.2 drivers, the 10.1 are what destroyed my cards usability, it works pretty fine minus the fact that with these drivers the card stutters and etc and etc, they are working on a fix for it so its not really a waste, they are nice cards!!!

do the drivers change the firmware too now?

also fairly unlikely but worth looking into: power supplies have different rails and though the total may be 750w the 12v rail (i think that's the important one) may not have enough for the two gpus and the cpu. pretty darn unlikely though since it won't post and you're only changing the FSB

it's true. my mouse didn't work until i stuck it up my butt.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.
