Soooo I thought this would be terrible and Pink is definitely not impressive, but Em tears the shit out of this track. Can see this being the next single.

Was the track I was the most worried about off Recovery so I'm happy it wasn't terrible.

so this is out huh. i'll listen to it just now.

edit:

this really isn't what i was expecting from this song. i can barely hear his lyrics since the song is so loud. i thought that recovery was going to be good until i saw the tracklist and now i'm thinking maybe it isn't totally ruined.

edit2:

heard some of the lyrics. i thought this album was him going full on when i'm gone hailie's song kind of stuff but he's just as misogynistic and dumb in this one as ever. i think the lyrics in this one are actually clever so far, like that calm batman/combat man bit that i still haven't really caught yet. maybe not but i'll listen to it a few more times.

Yeah he seems like he's going really mainstream punchliney rap for this. It's kinda different and yeah, VERY noisy. I like it more than Not Afraid though cos it's pretty different for Em.

He has a few good lines in it all in all. His flow is really different but he's still going on about drugs and stuff which is weird for an album titled 'Recovery'.

"Gonna introduce you to my power tool, you know the fuckin drill"

I think I need to listen to this a lot, like you said the lyrics are hard to decipher. I get the feeling it's probably either a single (so fuck the lyrics according to the label) or it's not properly mixed.

the whole song is like light punchlines, there's bound to be a few terrible ones

the one after that is okay, made me chuckle "Move it like Michael J Fox sittin in your drawers"

his flow is definitely on point at least

eminem has the same flow on all his new songs i feel. i mean, it's an impressive flow, for sure. fast paced, intense, aggressive, and he fits most his syllables together in a way that demonstrates he has an excellent understanding of the science of words. but his actual intent, message, and subject matter is lost behind bizarre abstract "punchlines" (in quotes because half of them aren't funny or even really particularly clever) and inane statements that are only there because they sound good. and he even writes his shit down - unlike wayne - so there really isn't any excuse for throwaway lines that serve no deeper purpose than "this is a good rhyme scheme".

his verse on drop the world is a perfect example of this, as well as forever. his verse on airplanes actually has some decent subject matter though, because he's talking about a bunch of personal shit (like he used to (when he was good)), but even then he's still pretty blatantly prioritizing flow over lyrics because it's that same fast/loud/angry bit he does on all his new shit.

in short: em is played out, free weezy

can't really enjoy eminem tbh. i mean, he's technically doing a lot more than most popular rappers are these days i guess but i can't help but feel that since he wrote all his shit at scribble jam he's gotten progressively faker. other rappers can do similarly technical things without such vacant subject matter / supporting the highly convenient discourse of popular music so i don't feel hugely compelled to pay much attention to eminem at all.

that kanye song has a really nice beat. i listened to it more than once, which i don't think has happened for me with a kanye song before.

i was looking through some of the other things on that website, though, and something occurred to me. you don't seem to get much scratching / turntables in general in hiphop these days. not just in what plays on the radio but in general. someone give me a hand here. what's something released in the last couple of years with turntablism clearly visible?
