Hello my friendly friends.

So I want to send some money to someone in the US, and was wondering the best way to do this. She has a US bank account, and I have a UK bank account. So far I have considered:

Money orders, or the UK equivelant - don't know anything about this at all, really.
Paypal - Lots of fees, and shit, and she doesn't have her Papyal linked to her bank account so it would be even more of a pain.
Mastercard CashPlus thing I found here - Seems okay, but she says she's used them before and there are horrible limitations and shit, I don't know anything about them.

Just wondering if anyone's had any experience with this kind of thing, and had any insight to offer.

Thanx!

Do not do it it is a trick she is not the orphan that she claims to be!!!!

Actually, in all seriousness, a bank transfer is the way to go. Ensure that you do it when the pound is stronger against the dollar and she'll get more than she would otherwise. Don't do paypal - do a bank transfer. It might cost you like £40 though maybe? Although they may have dropped that now.

Alternatively you could send it inside a box with a shitty little gift. Like if it's clearly a rubbish gift inside, no postman will steal it. However, it will be full of CASH haha! If you do special delivery it'll get there pretty quick too, although it'll cost about £20 maybe.

Hope that was in some way helpful.
Hey hey hey

I'm not sending tons and tons, I only need to wire her like $200, so paying a £40 excess seems very.. excessive!

I actually thought about the gift thing, haha. I will mention it to her when I speak to her next and see what she thinks. It's not a ton of money, but it's still a lot to randomly lose.

Find the nearest Western Union.  I use it all the time to send money to my girlfriend and it's the easiest way I've found to do it.

yeah western union is a pretty good bet, although there are some extra international fees. still, it's the safest way to do it that i'm aware of, and it's guaranteed to be fast.

Either paypal (3% fee is the only one you should be worried about .. but if you choose the send as a gift option you often bypass the fee) or western union is pretty much the most trusted way

I'd recommend against using paypal.  I tried that last year and it took over a month for my girlfriend to get her money through them, and they also charged her a fee to receive it.  It's a total fucking bullshit system they have.  Stick with Western Union.  The money is there the moment you finish your transaction with the clerk.

Here's a pretty good article on sending money as well: Sending money.

My wife's folks use bank transfers. The fees are usually lower and it goes right into checking so its really easy.

I've never had any problems with Paypal, but it seems Western Union is the answer.

I've received money via Western Union on several occasions. I vaguely remember the fee being pretty expensive, so a bank- or PayPal transfer would probably be the best option.
