i always credited the music to rare since pretty much every rare game had really badass music

banjo-kazooie's theme made me weep when they redid it with electric guitars for the new game

There was also a TV show which was terrible that is worth looking up.

I remember the show vaguely I think it was almost exactly like that zelda cg cartoon somebody made that was just random zelda characters talking in a badly rendered environment and it made no sense. Just replace with Donkey Kong characters/badly rendered jungle

Yeah, that didn't last very long. Or at least I didn't watch it very long.

except DKC was made by some brits but yeah more SNES-era music I look into the more it's not like GAME it's actually more variety of music than I'm into now.

I know my comment wasn't that clear, I just meant it was an era in videogames where Japanese RPGs had amazing soundtracks, not that DKC is a Japanese RPG. I've been playing Final Fantasy 13 and the soundtrack initially had a little promise but now it's turned out to just be a dozen piano arrangements with some terrible vocals thrown in.

I watched this a lot as a kid but it was never any good.  But it was part of a block of shows I watched on like Fox Family or something and I watched ALL OF THEM (I believe Monster Rancher was part of this block???? also FLINT THE TIME DETECTIVE) so I ended up seeing this a lot.

Why is he called Donkey when there is nothing donkey about him.

There are several theries

1) it was supposed to be Monkey Kong but a mistake was made by nintendo and the name stuck

2) Shigeru Miyamoto, the character's creator, used the English word "donkey" to evoke the animal's stereotypical stubbornness. (There was no translation error; the game has the same name, "Donkii Kongu", in Japan.) "Kong" is because, in Japan, "King Kong" has become a generic term for any large ape.
Thus, Donkey Kong is a stubborn large ape.

3) Due to traslation error.

The second one is true I think

I like to think that it is because the original name for the game was Ass Kong but they had to sell the game to children so they changed it

Just by reading the interview makes it seem to be a epic fail. No water can't, and what ever happen to the one hit and switch Idea... I liked it like that

That damn mine cart level... Don't even get me started on Stop and Go Station.

I never even beat World 2. I'm pretty much a worthless addition to society

DKC . Go to "Erase''. Press. B,A,R,R,A,L .

The first Donkey kong country was the easiest out of the three. I found 3 to be the most boring, 1 to be the shortest, and 2 to be my favourite.

You know, you can re-enter the entry point of Stop and Go and pretty much get warped to the end of the level. I used to do this all the time as a kid because it was probably the hardest World 2 level otherwise.

Not to sound like a complete dick though, but I always found DKC1 to be pretty beatable. It had it's challenging points (much of the last world (world 7? 8?)) was quite tricky with lots of obstacles and crazy jumping but I was never "stuck" on a level. DKC2 and especially DKC3 I think ramped the difficulty up much more. Just the memory of some of those bramble levels in DKC2 bring back nightmares.... and the annoying Squawks levels.

At least they had fantastic music:

Bramble levels were fantastic from the music alone. So relaxing.

No water levels? :(

I always enjoyed them, except the ones in DKC2 where the water kept turning into lava (so frantic!). But still, the change in game play provided by them was nice.
On another note, I would love a game with only mine cart levels. They're so much fun - plus the Disco Train music in DKC2 was amazing. Loved replaying that level just for the song. Hahahaha.

Yeah, you had to love that level, but I think for me it was more that it was more atmospheric (a fairground ride in DKC is such an epic idea and they really delivered with it). It's just a really enjoyable section of the game.

this sounds like a deus ex song.

I like the water levels, too, but mainly for the music that plays during them in the first game. I do like the change of style for them. I'd get pretty bored just shooting from barrel to barrel constantly.
