Because its essentially finished and fully playable. Its just not released. I imagine at this point all they have potentially to do it probably tweaks and bug fixes... maybe not IDK, but its playable. It'd be stupid if it wasn't released eventually at this point.
remember the N64 game Or Die Trying? it was cancelled pretty late in the development of it. :\

what is the appeal in duke nukem other than 'heh heh doom with a sense of humor'

like i get it back in 92' when you could make a video gameman pee in a toilet or read a dirty magazine this is revolutionary. but this stuff is standard now with games like gta on the market, and the only thing fueling duke nukem is "nostalgia"
like really i can't help but hope for the best for pretty much ALL developers but duke nkem is failing because it's as stupid as any "_____'s Adventures" game that you goons made in rm2k. especially when 1 in 5 console games is attempting to be the next halo.

this is the same problem with webcomics that you can find 30-40 comics about a guy and his friends sitting aorund playing video games making jokes that seem funny in the writers head but are stupid and cringeworthy, and then you have Scott Pilgrim out of nowhere that maybe has a production manager or PR or something that these comics aren't able to have and boom edgar wright is directing the movie adaptation.

matt hazard was a huge flop and you wonder is it because it's a bad idea? yes. what is the difference between this and duke nukem? maybe buy this game for your dad for fathers day (he will think it's funny (maybe edgy too) and it just might be out in time for fathers day or the next one)

sorry for the rant guys but that scott pilgrim bit has been scratching at my innards for weeks until this pitcher let it out
really unless your a die hard DN fan this is worth a rent at most i dont care how long it takes to get releast

Duke Nukem games are fun

That's why I like them

The nostalgia factor does help a little though

I'm gonna rip your head off and shit down your neck!
I lied, I actually hate Duke Nukem.

The gameplay videos look quite fun, whether it's worth buying or not I don't know. I'll probably try out the demo first.

From what I got from that video. 3D Realms didn't release it because it wasn't perfect enough. Like they all collectively had OCD. WTF, they should have just wrapped it all up and released it.

"I've played games that have shipped, that were in a less complete like state." - from that video.

I only skimmed over the video but I like how it has splashes of color it's not entirely in Gears of War world with grays and browns and silvers and a little red for rust blood lol next gen. Otherwise I guess it looks closer to Doom 3 is there a Doom 4 yet? I'm so out of touch

maybe it will be the reaction to the Gears of Wars's and Halo's of today and be brilliant satire

I do detect a little bit of soul/sincerity to this game I guess like sure Halo wielding but in other ways it seems like it might do what it feels like and not be like on this weird trend FPS games get on where something like Halo comes out everyone adopts everything about it until the next thing comes out Gears of War and then everyone clumps that on like each is a piece of PERFECT FORMULA

seriously there are times in this where it's like... whoa have graphics finally advanced to a point where they can have the style old 2d/early 3d games had not like overcompensating having crazy bump mapping etc. just because you can and hides some other graphic aspect that isn't so strong. Maybe it's just the little youtube window it genuinely reminds me of an N64 game. For the longest time I've been wondering if it's because of the limitations of the platform or the TRENDS at the time or nostalgia but this is pretty close to whatever style N64 inadvertenly stumbled upon. It's like how an N64 game felt when you were 9 or however long ago that was

here was the old Duke Nukem Forever trailer I saw

I thought it was more AMERICA FUCK YEAH I guess las vegas is kind of america

uuuhhhh I don't know oh yeah it is like rpg maker games probably but I'm assuming it was presented like a million times better lots of rpg maker games are probably like sitcoms too but even the worst sitcoms even if both you see the jokes coming a million miles away rpg maker games it's like 5 million miles away and bad sitcoms it's only 1 million

Edit: Seriously though 100% of recent games have felt like SHOCK VALUE to me with the graphics obviously duke nukem is shock value but I mean in the graphics themselves I guess it's probably just 'flashy' but I just get this bad vibe from it like they're trying to hit you over the head with it like almost disorienting it's so visually striking compare to overcompression of music on the radio some of the visuals in this game seem rich in a different way but again maybe I can't judge it from a little microscopic youtube video!

Edit: Should I try to paraphrase my posts from now on y/n

Duke Nukem 3D did have a lot of immaturity and "shock value" to it, yes, but that was not the only thing the game had. The game had some pretty deep combat mechanics, especially when compared to shooters of today. Combat could take place in the air, land, and underwater. Most FPSs, especially nowadays, don't even let you swim. It had an inventory system with some pretty creative items like the holoduke and jetpack which are just now being used in games like Halo Reach, Killzone 3, and Crysis 2. The game was also subtle in a number of ways. For example, when stepping out of water, you'd make footprints which could help enemies track you in multiplayer. Sounds such as crawling through vents were crucial in updating your thoughts on where the enemy is. There are security cameras to spy on enemies. The multiplayer holds up to this day and I'd say it surpasses many shooters of today. Plus, there is a level of interactivity with the environment that is still unmatched in many of today's shooters.

I'm not sure if Duke Nukem Forever is going to continue any of that since it seems to be going all Halo, but the hope alone is what drives me to be excited about this game.

I only liked the first Duke Nukem in all its 2D glory. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking, but I just prefer Duke as a platformer shooter and not a first person shooter. And Duke was so manly to admit that he watches Oprah.. hahahahaha.

I'm not even interested in this game but damn, it's still a shock to see that it may finally be made.

Happy birthday btw UPRC.
But it IS made, that's the surprising part!

And about comment that this game is well behind it's time, yeah, I agree. Duke Nukem, as a character, generates lots of 90's appeal but.. I don't know how he can hold up in 2010 to a new audience.

sorry if that was confusing before I was saying by 'shock value' it seems like a bunch of games today have the ability to do some sort of postprocessing to the images and of course they abuse it like calling attention to every single object on the screen so I call it like dynamics compression for videogame graphics (it's a music term but maybe they call it with regard to images I don't know) this is like, I liked how they were showing off all this animation in the video you could watch the pig dudes run around cast shadows on the scenery it didn't feel like HEY HERE'S A TREE LOOKIT THIS TREE maybe other FPS games are like this now and I haven't played many recently but it seems like they have a problem holding off on making the graphics so EXTREME so you can actually like, follow where a bad guy is moving and aim at him sort of functional game stuff but also more true to life like we don't see with everything in perfect focus all the time (maybe this is the appeal of videogames like SUPERHUMAN SENSES more real-looking than life etc.). I dunno it's just like background details seem more soft and subdued and dangerous things seem a little more like you can pick them out easily and I haven't profoundly noticed this in many recent FPS games

I still don't believe it.  They've been saying the game is coming out for over a decade, so why should we believe any differently now?

because it's a dev team that actually releases games all the time and has a current and reputable track record. 3D Realms has barely released a single original thing since the original DN3D, almost every game from them has simply been a port of DN3D with a few new levels or changes.
