Hello everyone. As you've probably guessed from all of my other dumb tech support questions here, I've always had problems with my ram / motherboard.

Basically what happens is randomly my computer will beep when I try to turn it on. Basically the ram is no longer seated properly (it hasn't moved out of the socket, it hasn't been moved at all, it's the same as it has always been) and I have to re-seat it about 100 times before it will finally work. Usually I just re-seat my ram until it works, but now I am sick of this.

I want to buy a new component to fix this. What should I buy, new ram or a new motherboard?

If your going to just buy one component then you need to make sure it's all compatible but with that said I would like to hope it's more your mother board but I can't really say it might just be the ram.

Is there any way for me to test my ram without putting it into another system? I don't really have access to another PC that supports DDR2 ram.

Try a differant dimm socket, try them one at a time in all sockets.

I've done that. This doesn't fix it.

that wasn't to fix it, but to test it, what kind of results did you get?

EDIT: the only way to get a sure fire way to find which it is, is to get some cheapo ram that will work with anything and try it, if it still doesn't work it's the mobo, if does then it's the ram, sure you have to pay out a little for the cheapo ram, but i'ts better then guessing, spending tons only to find it wasn't and you still have to buy more to replace what was actually not working.

Ok so it turns out both of these components are still under warranty. I'm going to send in the RAM first since it's obviously easier to remove and ship, and then if that doesn't work I'll try sending in my motherboard.

For future reference, it was, thankfully, the RAM.
