avatar, last airbender: this series never seems to stop surprising me at how good of a job they did of portraying buddhism in a way that i think is accessible to children and their parents. its really pretty cool how ang does actually stay true to a lot of buddhist ideas, and the show does not seem to just use eastern thought as a gimmick. the characters are very dynamic, especially for a childrens cartoon. also the fight scenes are cool, i can't lie. in fact i yelled at my girlfriend for trying to talk to me during and of the series finale battles.

tom and jerry: i never get bored of this show. i loved this show when i was a kid and i love i now. what gets me now is how incredibly trippy some of the scenes are. my favorite instance is when tom eats jerry and jerry walks up through his insides, slides tom's eye up like a window, walks out, and then shuts it. besides the fact that he opened his eye, the fact that the creators maintain the social nicety of closing his eye again, makes me laugh. the imagination put into this show is really great. they do the same theme over and over again, but yet it is almost always new and entertaining.

spongebob: i really like this shows. it has its funny moments, but i really couldn't tell you why i like it. i really like spongebob though.

dragon ball z: me and my dad watch this together sometimes now that they started running the new incarnation of it. me and him and my brother used to watch to together, and so i have a lot of nostalgia for the series. and my dad does too. my brother hardly talks to him and i cant tell you how many times he's said: "i used to really like dragon ball. it was nice having something me and you boys could watch all together." i'm actually kind of crying now. but anyway, to show that im not just be a pretentious ass, i still find this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm6GCulrPVE video to be awesome. I'd make the complaint that the animation be a little better, but ultimately, i totally enjoy watching that video. so i like to watch the new dragon ball z, especially with my dad (who also likes avatar, not that its really relevant).

samurai jack: i liked this when it came out, but i wasnt old enough to be smart enough to pay attention to it. i have never seen an episode of this i havent fully enjoyed. i think i love that jack is just jack no mater what faces him, and especially in the case of technology. I missed a lot of this show when it aired, but sometimes they show it late night on boomerang and i watch it. i mean i think the show has enough examples of bio vs techno in it to make that a legit point of study, but, beyond that, it has a lot of cool fight scenes. of course the ideas of nature and tradition vs technology are huge in the show, but that is only one part, specifically the part i highlight cause i want to sound like a smart cool guy. the other part is the action and it has good action. i think the action blends comedy and violence very well, and of course any violence jack partakes in is very justifiable, which i like.

dexters lab
: this is another show i loved as a child, and now they are showing on boomerang. i think part of the reason i loved it is dexter's constant sense of frustration. i think dexter's hate for deedee communicated a slightly misogynist view, which i found funny when i was a kid and i still do now (a carry over of my dad's divorce maybe...hahaha). Also, maybe, it communicated to me on the level that I had a few social ambitions, and neither did dexter...but let's not get too heady. anyway, this show was fun and clever i though, and i still do think!

i ignored king of the hill and aqua teen hunger force because they are obviously more adult and a discussion about those types of cartoons warrant their own thread.

PS. I love powerpuff girls, but they dont show that on any station to my knowledge so it didnt fit the VERY STRICT rules of this thread.

samurai jack is totally bomb

ongoing children cartoons that are notable: adventure time and flapjack

digimon will always have a place in my heart. newer seasons are utter crap though

i'm learning animation history now and i've grown to really appreciate looney tunes, though that was never originally just intended for kids.

Adventure Time and Flapjack are both pretty dang good yeah.  I've only seen Flapjack once or twice though but it's p. quality.  Adventure Time is just fantastic.

Welp, I'm pretty big into childrens cartoons so uh there's tons!  Lately I worked my way through all the episodes of Angry Beavers since they've been sitting on my harddrive for a while now.  Definitely an interesting sense of humor in that show--one that I've always loved.  I've also got all the episodes of Rocko and will probably watch them soon.  The only thing that I need to complete my Trifecta of Good Cartoons is to download all the episodes of Doug.

I feel weird bringing aminés into this but because they played a big part in my childhood I will just say that I will always hold soft spots for DBZ, Sailor Moon and Pokemon.  I just recently watched the first season of Pokemon again and I still got a lot of genuine laughs out of it.  A friend and I watched a shit ton of Sailor Moon during our summer break this year and since we watched it in English we got a lot of not so genuine laughs out of it but it was still an excellent time and I still do really love that show both from a genuine and a non-genuine standpoint.  DBZ I've not watched since it originally aired (and only watched up to about the point where Gohan was a teenager) but I've heard about DBZ Kai or w/e it's called and I'd like to watch that.

Some off the top of my head.

Hey Arnold!, Arthur (shut up, it's actually pretty good with a lot of popculture humour thrown in that only older people would get), Daria.

Fuck I forgot Hey Arnold.  Smashing show.

Also uh...I wouldn't call Daria a children's cartoon.  Even though I was probably a child when I saw it (I was definitely a child when I was watching Beavis and Butthead)

Spongebob, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, Hey Arnold!, Looney Toons, Adventure Time are all stuff I've watched and still like.

Another one in particular that I can still have a good laugh at is Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy. EDIT: yeah pretty much my favorite kids cartoon.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends used to be good, same with Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Both according to my friends have gotten new writers and have become crappy. But I have actually yet to see the new crappy episodes so I dunno.

Invader Zim was considered a kids cartoon show... and I'm not quite sure why. This also probably has something to do with the fact that it was canceled. But I really liked it in any case.

Johnny Bravo was OK, I'll also admit to watching and liking The Powerpuff Girls. Courage the Cowardly Dog was good. Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? was interesting but short lived.

One that I liked that no one seemed to know about: Mike, Lu & Og

Some that I don't/didn't really like but watched out of utter bewilderment: Cow and Chicken, Ren and Stimpy. Like WTF.

My friends really liked Megas XLR. I thought it was OK.

As I posted, Grunthor brought up:
Rocko's Modern Life
Rocky And Bullwinkle
Angry Beavers
Fairly Odd Parents
Teen Titans

Which I also remember liking.

I do want to say though that out of these, Spongebob Square Pants and Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy are the only ones I can say I've watched somewhat recently.

Yes.  I didn't like it at first, but after watching it a few times with my nieces and nephews it sort of grew on me.

I felt the exact same way about this show. I hated it, but I ended up watching a bunch of episodes while I was laying on the couch sick, and now I kind of like it.

I think I'm gonna have to download a bunch of old cartoons if I can, like Hey Arnold and Angry Beavers.

Also a couple people mentioned Adventure Time. I saw a couple episodes of this and I really liked it but I never know when its on.

I like stupid children's cartoons as long as they have some genuine artistic value and don't assume kids are retards.

Adventure Time is an incredible show but I never seem to catch it (like most TV). I really need to stream that show. I saw a little of Flapjack and that was a neat show as well. Ah! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern life were fantastic but it's been what... a decade[?] since I last saw either one. I need to change that.

At first I thought you were requesting a list of the children's cartoons that we presently watch, but others are mentioning cartoons that they used to watch. Actually, I don't watch much TV anymore and I'm not even sure if the cartoons that I watched as a child would still appeal to me. A lot of cartoons that are modern have degraded in quality from the ones in years past, and it's disappointing even though I wouldn't have any interest anyhow. As a kid, I would spend way too much time in front of the TV when I was younger instead of actually taking part in something constructive like reading a book or taking part in a hobby or interest of mine. With that said, I definitely have a lot of cartoons; I'll go ahead and mention my favorites and then "others" that were good but not neccesarily in my A-list.

Yes, I USED to watch these, but I feel compelled to mention them anyhow(screw the rules.)

Favorites
Hey Arnold
Rugrats
Rocko's Modern Life
The Busy World of Richard Scarry
The Wild Thornberries
Looney Toons

Others
The Angry Beavers
Ahh! Real Monsters (I watched this one sparingly i.e. when I was quite bored)
Ren and Stimpy (This show had far more interested fans than I was, but I could still enjoy it)
Catdog
The Adventures of Tintin
Dragonball Z
Johnny Bravo
Ed, Edd and Eddy
Courage the Cowardly Dog
Dexter's Laboratory
Muppet Babies
The Fairly Odd Parents

I just know that there are a lot that I am forgetting so I will probably edit this list later.

oh man i forgot about beast wars

watching it now, the animation was absolutely terrible. it will still always forever be a cherished childhood memory

also, someone mentioned ren and stimpy earlier--that wasn't really targeted towards kids! it has some pretty, uh, inappropriate content matter and themes. i mean i guess some kids shows have that but this was more explicit and grotesque. great show, still!

and also someone mentioned arthur. i actually really liked arthur, for the most part. they had a legendary episode where they made an animated reference to south park, among other awesome things

eh, i think i kind of overstated it cause i was drunk. it does portray Buddhist ideas, just in very broad brushstrokes.
