Every company working out of the gulf of mexico having anything to do with the oil industry and maybe even others usually get that safety bonus. The bonuses are given as an incentive to be safer next year when you're working. Like wearing all of your personal protective equipment and spotting out anything dangerous in the work areas blah blah blah. Because companies get more work and other stuff I'm pretty sure for having a good safety record with recorded accidents and deaths and stuff like that.
The oil spill should have probably shot that down, yes. But I bet it was more like a way to give their employees something to go off of because alot of people got laid off of work as a result of that accident.
Notwithstanding the tragic loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico, we achieved an exemplary statistical safety record as measured by our total recordable incident rate and total potential severity rate
honestly it sounds stupid as hell but in all actuality what this guys saying is true. They don't count big disasters like fires or explosions as much as you'd think the bonus is given more as a general look some safety statistic data bullshit......I'm not kidding.
