The most recent song I took in for my side project was referred to as "Mars Drive In" by one of the guys in the band.

As a result, I'm thinking of checking out the Mars Volta albums that came out after I gave up on the band. I remember hearing bits of Amputechture and subsequently swearing off of their music, maybe I was a bit hasty in my judgment.

Well, Amputechture is pretty bad. But De-Loused is really good and the only album worth listening to from the band, everything else is garbage (imo)

Disregard this entire post. Listen to it all. It's all awesome. I have binged on Octahedron this year.

I subsequently binged on At The Drive In too. Listen to Enfilade.

The case has prompted widespread controversy, with supporters of Mr. Assange alleging that he is the victim, and the women are complicit, in an American-inspired vendetta seeking to punish WikiLeaks for posting hundreds of thousands of secret American documents on the Internet.

hey good job NYT, you just made everybody who questions the validity of this case a conspiracy theorist.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I think basically as long as you go in there expecting Tron and not expecting INCREDIBLE STORYTELLING THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING IN THE WORLD you will like it.  Also I like how well Daft Punk can play themselves in Tron and not look out of place at all.

My dad kind of complained that the 3D wasn't very impressive but fuck I really like the idea of shit only being in 3D when it needs to be.  I think if it had been to its full 3D potential it would have made me and everyone else in the audience throw up.

I'm cleaning out some old junk at my mom's place, and i found my old art portfolio from art class in 9th grade. I don't know how I managed to get a good grade in that class, because inside it was no sign of any work having been done at all. What I found instead were numerous A3 pages of my photocopied face.

Afrirampo are by far the most exciting thing to happen to music since the mothers of invention. It's a shame they disbanded during the summer. I cried.
English music sucks these days, the only really exciting stuff to come fron england/america in the past few years is from guys in their 40's-70's. And now Afrirampo disbanded, it's like, what? The only two bands worth listening to are Acid Mothers Temple and Ruins Alone. I make myself a chalklenge to this and say no! Abeinspace is new music. Abeinspace is music. I dedicate myself to the progression of new, energetic and exdciting rock music. Abeinspace is the future.
Went into a trance today and recorded and mixed a track, Brain damaged star explosion!
Noiserock is still alive, just right now I feel I'm the only englishman who cares about it.

England was once the most vital and exciting scene in music, now we are the most stale, commercial and vapid. It is disgusting! Every english band these days sounds EXACTLY THE SAME. I went to the album launch of a band 'the spartans' and they sounded EXAXTLY the same as the warm-up acts. this same BLAND post-blink182 BORING MUSIC with WHINING VOCALS.
How come the ONLY good young music these days seems to come from Osaka?

I thingk that it is because western musi is TOO SAFE. I mean musically, Hip-Hop hasn't changed much since it's inception. Dan The Automator might do sick stuff, bet when it still comes down to it, It's all funk-derivative, and therefore predictable since Sly stone and Funkadellic really caried funk.

This kinda stuff REALLY GETS TO ME. Like, I have sopent the past six months working on an album, everytime I get progress, I abandon it because I realise I was too derivative. Like the first atempt was TOO MUCH KRAUTROCK, the second time was TOO MUCH ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE, and I feel now I kinda get why the Osaka scene is really NEW MUSIC'S LAST CHANCE AT BEING GOOD, and I WANT to bring that over here, I WANT to make english jkusic THAT IS NEW. Like when Arctic Monkeys released their album this year and all the critics sucked it's dick, I was left thining "HANG ON! These guys are only doing THE EXACT SAME THING THAT HAS BEEN DONE FOR FORTY FUCKING YEARS! HOW IS THIS EXCITING???", I abandon this music.

Music should not be derivative, it should be new. It should not be boring, it should be fun. Music has an unparalleled ability to penetrate deep into the psyche and allow people to enjoy themselves.

When I was five, I imagined myself in a spacey heavy metal band, I DINDT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THAT MEANT, BUT I STILL IMAGINED IT rioght. Now I spent the past year doing SPACE ROCK, moving into extreme trip music/noise rock and it;s like WOW. I guess when you put effort into it, your child-ness really comes through.
I am nearing the end of a fine-art degree and I'm now like, I dont give a shit about that stuff. I WANT TO MAKE NEW MUSIC.
All I want to do, the ONLY THING in my head is making new music.

IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE ^THAT I WORK FOR SOMETHING AND THEN IN THE LAST MOMENT DECIDE I DONT WANT TO DO IT. Man, fuck being bi-polar.; IT SUCKS.

Music has un-paralleled ability to make people happy, and that is me. I WANT TO MAKE MUSIC. I want to show that MAYBE England still has something in it to prove that it can still make relevant music, but then FUCK ENGLAND, it;'s only a name for a small portion of land, and LAND BELONGS TO NOBODY. and when it comes right down to it, I WANT TO MAKE NEW MUSIC. And that is all that matters. Muysic. MUSIC. music. ABEINSPACE abeinspaceABEINSPACeabeinspabeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I am going to take this as far as possible. I WILL MAKE NEW MUSIC. It is something in me. Contemporary english music is like SILENCE to me. NEW MUSIC is the way to be. My influences are Afrirampo, Acid Mothers Temple, Ruins, Ash Ra Tempel, Hawkwind, Gong, Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Captain beefheart etc etc. New Music is THE FUTURE, and STAR, EXPLOSION, FUN!
I live for music. I live for NEW MUSIC.

Anyway, I'm home in Indiana. Finally get to relax from finals. Family is abnormally easy going at the moment so I'm enjoying that to.

usa america we stand as one.

my brother is into that stuff but I realized it is probably entirely because of this song and I sort of really want to grill him on it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgqIgpRM870

as ramci said it's basically Metal Gear Solid videogame intro text

also sometime maybe 5 years ago he wholeheartedly believed that South America has no cities it's all jungle

I could really make an amazing XZRII-style videogame plot just by mindmapping my brother's worldview - somewhere evil druids are planning to resurrect some demonic-super saiyan version of George Washington with evil illuminati magic which requires the blood of Alex Jones and you must scan youtube videos of old Tupac songs for hidden messages (password system for the game) and each level is like a secret unknown location like first level is Area 51 second is Bohemian Grove your character is also a stereotypical anime white westerner guy but with massive amounts of white guilt/colonialism

honestly he's a cool guy it's just jesus please Zappa please not have done drugs because I need some interesting people to look up to who weren't on drugs/have ridiculous worldviews (scientology counts as one of these)/some other weird revelation comes out
