shouldn't that be plenty of cash in vietnam? i'm thinking of going to se asia among other places this summer so i need to know these things.
Ok dude I went through there for a little bit (only like four or five hours) but from what I saw and heard I think south vietnam would be a good place to vacate if you can afford the flight that far out there. As far as asia I know that the phillipene cheap, japan is expensive and I'm going to assume china is also very expensive, singapore is expensive as fucking hell, but vietnam (south vietnam) is very cheap. The currency is in dongs and you get 20,000 dongs for a single us dollar. I bought two t-shirts a kimono and a hat from some lady selling them on the street for 25$ and I'm pretty sure she was tryin to get over on me a lil bit but I didn't care cus thats still cheap as hell and the material seems to be pretty good for off of the street.
I flew into saigon in ho chi mein city or some shit that sounds like that I can't remember and am probably mispronouncing it but if you look on a map or wiki you'll be able to find where I'm talking about easy I think it might be the only major airport in the area. That part is pretty run down looking, the streets are in pretty bad condition and theres road work everywhere but its like they're pouring gravel in some places and working by hand pulling up concrete in others. Its pretty unorganized as fuck and if you ride in a taxi through there it is going to scare the living fuck out of you. You will literally flinch several times because you think that people are gonna get clipped off of the highway. Also speaking of highways I'm pretty sure there is only a single highway running from the airport in to the uptown area. The area going from the airport is about three hours away by car, its alot nicer. Way more developed with alot of nice looking buildings and hotels and stuff. You won't see a single mcdonalds or anything like that, atleast I didn't. They have a buch of marketplaces selling fresh fruit, seafood, and meats off of the street and a couple mall outlets but not exactly like the west I don't think. This place is near and on the waterfront. They have some gigantic jesus statue that you can climb up in and look at the city from the top. Everything is cheap as fuck and from what I understand their money goes for about half of what the US dollar does but I didn't go out and buy a bunch of shit either, everyone else that got to stay and go around town said it was really cheap though. I payed fifty cent for a pepsi and the road tolls were only fifty cent.
I didn't know that south vietnam was still communist. Its my ignorance though cus I don't know alot about vietnam except tidbits of the war and stuff. You'll see alot of red flags with a golden star and the sickle and hammer flags everywhere.
I don't know alot about cultural hotspots and all that but I'm sure you'd be able to find all kinds of cool shit out there to look at. Lot of swamp land around there, river fronts and some beaches, mountains too. all in the same place which is really cool. The greenery is so wild looking and beautiful. They got alot of thatch handmade roofs and stuff and if you look at their rundown shack lookin' housing units and stuff it looks like all of the greenery and shit are growning into and around everything. Like its taking the land back, it looks really cool.
