Gimme the 1-3 best songs on Plastic Beach. I listened to it once when it came out and it sounded really boring, have to check back. Fuck you is pretty nice, it's like this is what hit radio stations should sound like. Listened to some other songs from Lady Killer and it sounded uninteresting.

i feel the same way about lady killer that i do about every gorillaz album and that's that i had to listen to it for a little while to really like it.  i mean it's not that i initially disliked any of these but aside from two or three songs every one of these i was like "man i wouldn't really listen to any of these on a regular basis" but then the more i did listen to them the more i liked them.  some of the songs on lady killer still haven't caught my attention but fuck you, bright lights bigger city, love gun, satisfied, i want you and no one's gonna love you are all v. good

yeah, first time i listened to new gorillaz i felt that there were only a few standout tracks i liked but the more i listened to it, the better it got. it's a really good album.

hundley i'm listening to water stories and this is some really good stuff.

anyway, i didn't listen too much new music this year but some of my favorites of the year are:

anathema - we're here because we're hre
pariisin kevät - astronautti
bt - these hopeful machines
pure reason revolution - hammer and anvil
gorillaz - plastic beach
röyksopp - senior
amplifier - the octopus (kinda 2011 release tho)
lcd soundsystem - this is happening
oceansize - self-preserved while the bodies float up
menomena - mines
broken bells - broken bells
devil sold his soul - blessed & cursed
dungen - skit i allt
arcade fire - the suburbs
bonobo - black sands
caribou - swim
demians - mute
sia - we are born
the national - high violet
the river empires - the river empires (epilogue)
the roots - how i got over
villa nah - origin

there's a fuckload of stuff i wanna hear but haven't had the time or motivation to listen to yet.

since everyone is deadbeat/person who like the same music here's my sisters top 10 she still listens to lots of new stuff.

Quote
1. SALEM - King Night (“witch house”/drag/electronic)
2. The Radio Dept. - Clinging to a Scheme (shoegaze)
3. Future Islands - In Evening Air (new wave/electronic)
4. The Besnard Lakes - Are the Roaring Night (shoegaze)
5. The Octopus Project - Hexadecagon (experimental/electronic)
6. Electric Wizard - Black Masses (sludge/doom metal)
7. Gold Panda - Lucky Shiner (electronic/chillwave)
8. Small Black - New Chain (chillwave/lo-fi/electronic)
9. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti - Before Today (experimental/indie/avant garde)
10. Torche - Songs for Singles EP (sludge/stoner pop)

Honorable Mentionz:
The Black Angels - Phosphene Dream (psychedelic rock)
Bongripper - Satan Worshipping Doom (doom metal/post-metal)
Uffie - Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans (electro)
Hammock - Chasing After Shadows…Living With Ghosts (ambient/post-rock)
Ratatat - LP4 (electronic/indie)

the genre tags make me wish I didn't look.................what do you guys think about salem? if I had to guess what the next big thing will be I'd guess this. not necessarily this exact kind of music but like sleazy-chic, the aesthetic of self-destruction and cultural decay. we should all probably look like them, all this garbage about being cultured and ok with life is just a front partially inflicted upon us by our market-driven society partially 90s nostalgia edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2sOQedggAc&feature=related

heard them on the radio a while back and thought it was fun. that kind of sound is definitely on the rise in a number of different areas of music. i wouldn't say it's about cultural decay though. it's more like decay culture. i dunno maybe it's about perceived cultural decay. either way, i agree about this being the next thing. probably in nonradio music mostly.

This is PUSHING THE LIMITS OF HIP HOP...
AND ALL THE PEOPLE WITH NARROW MINDS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND..

BE GLAD LIL B DID THIS FOR YOU..
HE IS A HUMAN SACRAFICE..
i think lil b kind of plays with the same sort of thing, and MIA has definitely done it a lot. i don't really 100% get what lil b is up to though. he's very intentional about it, whatever it is, and this kind of disoriented, nauseous layered sound is part of it. lots of people are talking about the dude and also punching him in the face so he must be doing something.

also this stuff.

SALEM sounds like this but more detached (and obviously it's more dance.) i think it all sounds a bit nihilistic, ignoring MIA.

Cool, interesting to read about what was going on behind the tracks. His other albums are good too, Old Prince is worth listening to

I meant the aesthetic of cultural decay

there's a comment by canned kitty on that lil b video, is that you?

and does anyone remember that kind of slowed-down rap from a few years ago? was it called like robitussin rap or something? it might have been sort of similar to this

haha nope. I didn't even read the comments at all. i don't really have an opinion about lil b other than that he says a lot of misogynistic stuff (hi welcome to rap) and very occasionally is extremely lucid. i can't really tell if he's being facetious or what. i think it's like an attempt to become one with the entire rap game but what does that even mean.

are you talking about chopped and screwed? i was kind of excited to hear about chop and screwed big boi but yeah robitussin rap is a better name for it. it's just slowed down tracks. it's boring, i thought it was going to be cutting up verses and throwing them into chaos or something.

I dunno, maybe. I kind of remember it having stuttering and other stuff too. and I kinda don't think I would have listened to something called chopped and screwed on my own

I only asked biggles because cannedkitty commented on my wall and now I see them on lots of youtubes

Kayne is a dick and I didn't even like his other albums that much, I could never understand what people were going on about but this one is awesome.

New GFK is really good which is a surprise (better than big doe, bulletproof wallets, pretty toney etc) because it was announced and then came out like two months later, like it seemed rushed.
