John George Jones, who created Soft & Cuddly, had a first game called Go To Hell that looks really good too. I'm not sure if Warning - Why Can the Bodies Fly was on the soundtrack or just the video that I watched but it's great and totally suits the game
wow, looking at Go To Hell now and it's really blowing my mind - I love the concept of hell and games based around hell. (the idea of an infinite, hostile wasteland of horrible and incomprehensible/alien things just resonates with my mind I guess.) has anyone tried getting ahold of JGJ in recent times? I wonder what he would create nowadays, given a lot more power to extend his creativity. I wonder if he even pays attention to video games anymore. what a character
and yeah, catamites, ufouria is nice. it's not really a "great" game and doesn't last very long, but it's worth the time it takes to check it out (one of the enemies is... a frog statue spitting frogs!! mayhaps a goblet grotto crossover is at hand??? cute, friendly metroidvania haunted by incessant, distorted croaking)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dwfMkCg36U i saw the original version of this video when i was pretty young and it burnt into my mind the ability to see value in aspects of video games that are normally derided as hideous or undesirable. unfathomable animations, stock models. unconvincing skyboxes and empty levels. rawness; emotions derived from some media that, by all rights, should be completely bereft of feeling. yeah i love that shit!
the music in that video -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc4aiSqW39g - is great. I especially love the bit at 0:39 and the synth that comes in after a couple of measures of that. totally typical japanese psx/visual novel music. something about that arpeggio (?) man... i d k
