you are a big dumb gun awkwardly grinding around brown ruins. best strategy: wait for dust clouds to clear so you can shoot at ???? [transmission ][/transmission]

When I was a kid there were a few times when we would find floppy disks with games we didn't remember buying. There were two more unusual times when we found games installed on our computer that we didn't remember installing.

One of these was a text/terminal-based CIA game. It was a hacking game where you broke codes (kind of like one portion of Covert Action, a game we adored) and accessed mainframes and all that. It was black and white. When we first found it, my brother and I thought we'd encountered a backdoor to a government agency, and it spooked us a little. I think it was labeled in this nondescript way and put into a nondescript folder somewhere on our hard drive.

The other game was one out of a compendium of about ten terrible games we found somewhere on our computer. In this game you played a goldfish in a bowl. You could swim back and forth and gain enough momentum to launch out of the bowl. You could fly pretty far to the right of the screen, which scrolled for some reason, but we could never get past the table, which we'd land on and die. We assumed that there was a way to a bigger aquarium, but we never managed to swim fast enough to get a good launch.

I was in kind of a Demon mood today, so I looked around and found a cool couple of tumblrs

http://artofkazumakaneko.tumblr.com/
Kazuma Kaneko's the guy who did the early Shin Megami Tensei art, and I've always been a big fan of his style. the shin megami tensei 2 stuff in particular is great, because it occupies an uncommon cross-section of cyberpunk, post-apocalyptia, and demonic mysticism.  it was sort of like the cool kids version of pokemon taken to a logical extreme.

here's a cool one with centuries-old woodblocks and pictures from old tomes, and suchlike in addition to contemporary depictions.

that list is too good only I think it's missing Scissoring

my grandmother genuinely believed the peace sign was an evil/satanic symbol. she said the arms are like a broken cross. it was the 90s when smiley faces and peace signs were hip and that was her response to my sister's peace sign poster in her room. she also told me she saw the devil outside while she was babysitting us once, so she probably would have believed that jpg

I doubt Jack Chick knows what that is. Also, I just noticed Twilight made the list. That would put its creation ages after I assumed it would've been printed.

yeah seriously, that list encompasses like several decades of pop/alt-cultural strata in one go.  I don't know if it was a Chick tract or someone else with a similar worldview/methodology, but like whoever it was, it's clear that they are some kind of old fogey who has a superficial and cursory knowledge of a bunch of buzzwords he's heard over the years that he chose as ideal targets for his satanic boogeyman conspiracy or whatever

it floors me that there was no reference to queer things at all. I'd say maybe it's just because it's self-evident to the likes of him, but then again he felt the need to mention that the Church of Satan ain't kosher, so...?
