I keep wandering back here, to this Gaming World of yore. Not just for nostalgic reasons, but something else. The people here were ahead of their time, a generation so sensitive to the digital age that they anticipated a whole decade of culture, the indie game explosion in particular. I see echoes of this place everywhere. Sometimes I think that GW could have really been huge, an institution bigger than reddit, and I wonder why it didn't.

People stopped caring, peoples' taste changed, people moved on to better things, new people didn't really come in and those that did rarely stayed long, the frontpage was replaced by a blank space for a bit. That kind of thing.
 
The funny and/or amazing pics in this thread are really all that keeps me coming back at this point.

if this place got big, it likely would have also gotten dreadful, and its charm and avant-garde nature would have been among the first sacrifices, as is the fate of all small communities that become bloated. this dwindling near-death may be the kindest fate it could have hoped for

Some of the gfx in that first mix remind me of that style of lazy/arty b-game that is just heavily saturated images superimposed in multiple layers, like kanoguti-type stuff.
 
The techno mix is pretty good! I'm gonna slsk some of these for sure.
