like Yume Nikki I really really feel for this game despite not really being fun

I still play this from time to time(including the hi-res, online-compatible, xbox arcade version) and it's still fun to play, although some people would argue that it hasnt aged pretty well, and theyre probably right but its still fun on some level. Probably whats more jarring than anything else is how each multiplayer level seemed to be designed by some sinister sleaze who wanted to make claustrophobics cringe while they navigated around them. Maybe its just me, because there are some spacious maps, but it seems that even these have these windy, narrow corridors in them that cause you to resort to a corner in paranoia because of the prospect of a dark sim blazing around the corner with dual cyclones with a tinge of death in his eyes, which sends a fleeting chill sent down your spine as you lay in your own pool of blood 'til you choose to respawn and try it all over again. The overall design of some of the maps is poor, too, because they feel like these cookie cutter corridors and rooms were slapped together and there was nothing novel or particularly interesting about their individual design. Anyhow, to their credit, not all of the maps suffered from this confined space curse design and instead it felt more fitting, such as the facility classic GE map - it was closed quarters at points but it was tiny and there was this overall cohesiveness to it that made it feel right.

One thing that the game was highly acclaimed for was its sheer level of customization, and huge arsenal/diversity of weapons thats hardly even paralleled by most games of its kind thatre released today. Its nice how each weapon has their own primary function and then a secondary function to accompany it, it adds a new level of fun of fun to the game to keep things interesting. I think that if a true remake for PD were in order, then the developers should revamp some the maps and update the engine and possibly incorporate the ability to jump around.

the dull multiplayer maps might've been because of the whole EXPANSION PACK thing if you may remember the multiplayer mode was the only thing playable without one. So I assume it uses memory differently/is programmed differently or something/less texture memory for example/smaller maps/less geometry. I heard PD was programmed really weird to begin with like the textures seem too high-res for N64 and I heard they cheated somehow to do that

really though i do kind of like all this voxel stuff and how weird it all looks even apart from the interest on a technical level in destructible garbage! strange blobby fungus worlds. from the sound of things all this stuff still takes up a ridiculous amount of computer power but that's the high end of the spectrum and i know some indies are messing around with trying to make voxel editors even outside of minecraft derivatives.
