right? "but your life is a joke." i had to go back and relisten to that because i thought i'd misheard, that's awfully brutal to say to someone even if they're doing nothing but smoking crack all the time? the wild tone shifts are super weird. the most lol part is that the first few lines, like until 15 seconds in, he sounds more like he's on coke and singing how great it is than condemning it. some comments saying they had the tape when they were kids and enjoyed it just as some rockin' music and i have to say his tone and the instrumentals are a lot less distasteful than they could have been. it's a little repetitive but there are a lot of cool little musical moments and it's got an air of both appealing sincerity and disingenuous mystery.

Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III was a pretty good fantasy (you know, Rastan...) beat'em'up in the arcades. In addition to its dope graphics, it was very slightly weird and had some interesting shit. Even the best ending you can get hints at failed opportunity and missed treasures. Rastan himself is essentially Conan and only gives a fuck about what gold the world has for him. The best part is that at the very end you find a huge armored knight at the top of a tower... he speaks to you before the battle... "I'm sad, you want to be a hero too. You'll suffer the same fate as I." which is just the most fucking chilling line ever. Then he turns into a demon and never saying anything again. Is it a reference to arcane Taito lore... who can tell...? What's your favorite CHILLING ASS LINE in a vg? Spoilers allowed@!!

Today I'd have to say the best thing that a video game can do is sustain an atmosphere of such simple mediocrity and indifference that even basic tropes like the fallen-hero enemy take on bizarre enigmatic power. Here Rastan III is hurt by its smoothness and polish as a game because if it was really shitty and effortless and uncreative the whole way through, and then the last guy said that shit to you, it would shake you to your boots. Your gaming boots.
