Anyway I could get my hands on the previous world we were working on? I was working on something big and was hoping to finish it off even if its in singleplayer.

I like the new map. Already built a farm in-between two open mouthed caverns that spread out in all sorts of random directions under the landscape.

As long as I'm there, I figure I can hoard a bunch of snow until I can think of something cool to do with it all.

In theory, can I play on the SaltW server with a cracked copy of Minecraft?

I played the demo or free version or whatever in the browser and it seemed okay. It didn't really tempt me to shell out my cold hard cash for the privilege of playing. Then again, I've wasted $15 on far worse in the past.

That free version I believe it to be old classic version, which you can play on the Minecraft.com site. Its freebuild and sucks.. Playing the game on survival is a lot more fun and more of a challenge.

No, you need to buy the game if you want to play. We're not going to set it to offline (unless maybe you are really poor in which case I'd probably work something out for you).

I think a lot of people like myself bought minecraft in alpha because it seemed to have a lot of potential, but at this point it doesn't seem like most of that potential will ever be realized and I think it's a pretty bad game as it is. I never tried smp though, I guess I'll give it a whirl

I think Minecraft is a great game and is definitely worth $15 or whatever it costs now (I don't know what your expectations are?)

Anyway, whitelisted Earl_chip and claska. :-)

the survival mode hasn't really been developed yet, it's still pretty much a sandbox game. and as a sandbox game I don't think it's very fun once you realize everything the game has to offer, which actually isn't very much. it's not surprising the game doesn't have much to offer in beta, but since he was already selling in the indev stages and he hasn't added much since infdev in terms of actual game-changing content I find it doubtful the game will ever live up to its potential, except possibly in third-party mods if they're still allowed by the time the game is finished

I've been following it since indev, I've used redstone enough.

you really gotta stop playing the mindless games man, you're making yourself go braindead.

Every game is mindless if you think of it that way.

If you try to gauge something that's so entirely abstract in terms of "how much more pointless is this game compared to that game", then you're making yourself go braindead already.

Also to assume that any game can live up to something as abstract as it's own potential is pretty weakminded.  Even if it kept on getting closer to that potential, all it would accomplish is giving that game even more potential to not live up to.

Although because of currency exchange rates, I had to pay over 20$ US for the game even with the early purchase discount. It's a good game, but I think it'd have to be a long while before I find it worth that much. (and even if it does get to that point, it'll end up costing even more than that by that time anyhow. It's pretty much the only reason I purchased early, even if I find myself feeling a bit ripped off)

Adding mod support is priority number two right now I think, behind a new launcher. Also the main reason they haven't added much actual content during the last half a year is that notch spent most of the autumn working on technical stuff like getting the multi-player working and then setting up the company. (I've been reading his blog way too much) I'm not saying it's definitely gonna be awesome, I have no idea where they're gonna take the game, but I think your reasons for doubting aren't very good.

yeah I used to get his blog on rss but I had to quit because it was pretty irritating sometimes. I don't mind if you don't like the reasons I've given, I'm not trying to persuade anyone. not that I should have to, since no one has any reason to believe it's gonna be any better of a game than it is now, and since notch's idea of 'adding content' seems to be limited to simple gimmicks and novelties that become stale within a half hour of play

edc uh I'm not sure where you're going with that. once you quit playing games for the most part, stuff like this starts to feel like a mind-numbing waste of time after awhile. it's not good for you to veg out too much. dx apparently plays games like this and wow a lot, and his reading comprehension level is somewhere around 0, so I'm just saying it couldn't hurt

So far the game is fun to play; personaly i think this is one of those games, like civ for example that you have to make your own fun othewise your gonna be bored mindless.

the thing I like about the civs is that I can play them while doing something else. they're not simultaneously time-consuming and completely engaging. I used to listen to new albums while playing minecraft, that works pretty well as long as you're not worried about monsters sneaking up on you
