Did they promote slavery until 9/11 forced them to quit? 10 years is a suspicious amount of time.
There was a lot of controversy over the flag through the 90's. Hardly anyone agreed to have it flying it but our state legislation viewed it as an important piece of history to display on the state house. I was probably 13 when the people finally voted it down in 2001. As I said before, the state has a long history with racism but an event like the removal of the confederate flag from the capitol building only helps my point.
Ten years can have a lot of sway on social views, especially young people in my generation who grew up through that period
