ya, I think one of the reasons the game managed to stay interesting and exciting is because we always knew something more was coming. unfortunately that 'something more' ended up being lackluster and unfinished, and now we've only got minor improvements and bug fixes to look forward to

You forgot texture packs.

At this point, I`m just waiting for the open source engine built only to directly rip off minecraft`s engine to come out. It seems the only way to keep the ability to look forward to things alive indefinitely, is to put more control in the hands of the group of people that originally fooled us into thinking this game was fun to begin with.

ya it's only fun playing on the server. haven't tried out any mods tho

I can't do the controls until my arm heals, else I'd hop on.

I think the Technic pack mod would make things indeed busier, if it was something that could work on a server without major trouble (it seems like it has trouble at times even with the default mc), although really any of the individual mods in that pack are good enough on their own (especially the Equivalent Exchange mod, at least when it comes to building/destroying at the most useful rates imaginable). It's basically all I ever play when it comes to single-player minecraft.

MedievalCraft also looks like it has a chance at being really fun, but it's PvP based, so it could only do well if there was already a good amount of activity going on.

i'm going to experiment with stuff right now. since there isn't really any other active members right now lol. I'll make a backup of the map in case all hell breaks loose..

I installed technic to test (because everything there looks totally sweet)

There are a few ID conflicts I had to manually correct on the server side, I'm not sure if they need to be adjusted somewhere at the client side too... (that would suck.)

I'm testing it out right now, and it looks pretty cool so far. The only concern is that since the map is a copy of the one we were already on before, finding materials critical to playing with some of the mods (actually, just industrialcraft) looks to be very difficult. (It might be obtainable in chunks not yet spawned, but I wouldn't know which direction to start checking for those).

might as well. Even without the philosopher's stone, I'd rather start fresh than trade all my future batteries and copper wires for a pair of big dumb buildings. (IC was my favorite part of the whole pack anyways)

but if we do have to abandon the whole mod route at some point, you bet that'll be the map I want to start back on

Alright, I finally got my base going well enough that I have a surplus of basic resources and can start testing all the new stuff.

At the moment, the only thing I see that clearly doesn't work are the machines provided by the MineFactory mod. I thought it might have been a smp issue, (since they do require input in the form of redstone pulses, in order to count out the steps) but the devices are just as unresponsive in singleplayer, and the page about the mod claims it usually does fine in smp.


EDIT: Turned out to be an issue with me underestimating how compatible the mods really were. Redstone engines apparently work with everything and there was no issue.

Cant get to grips with all the new sh*t, its too complicated now. Minecraft seems to have turned into a really bad rpg as opposed to a game about building sh*t.

I guess the problem is that Notch tried to force his original view of the game into the current mc. he planned to make a dwarf fortress like game which is obviously an rpg and thus the Adventure updates however the thing that attracted lots of people is it's sandbox capability.

imo, he should have concentrated on giving more 'god' controls to the players. And add capabilities to make adventure maps. I mean there is adventure maps but it could use some great additions like message boxes, maybe a simplified coding system to free from too much redstone, etc. Not exactly to turn it into a game maker but it could have been nice for people to make maps and add interactibility by their own choosing when giving it to players. Imagine being easily able to create star trek npcs on that famous gigantic uss something ship. Or adding pirates and custom stuff and gfx on pirate boat builds without the hassle of downloading texture packs and all that.
anyway that's just my opinion and what i would have wanted for mc to turn to. There is already mod capability but I think it should all have been incorporated and all that rpg and adventure mode left to people to make and play if they want to. it sucks because we know future updates would now revolve around enchantments, bosses, and that crap meta storyline that is too corny and pretentious.
