We’re sure many of you have seen or heard about Notch’s post-Minecon tweets, which were not what we expected to see when we got off the plane from Minecon – we’ve had a sleep now and recovered a bit, so this is our response:

We are very disappointed by these tweets from someone we admire and respect. We can understand that it was the morning after the deadmau5 party and Notch was very tired, but we are still fairly upset. The quotes and actions that Notch attributed to us were not said by us or published anywhere by us. Therefore we are surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview.

Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.

Out of all the tweets that Notch sent out, most hurtful was the accusation that we told a kid to “fuck off” and crossed out another signature – which is something we would never ever do.

We loved spending time with fans and were overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us and give us gifts. Simon has enough Jaffas to last him until the middle of 2012. The problem was that Minecon is a new show and organisation was pretty bad, and when we came to the scheduled signing sessions, nothing had been set up for us and we had to scrabble around to fetch tables, ropes and pens ourselves. With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past.

This lack of organization contributed to long and confused lines and we were heartbroken to have to turn away so many people when we ran out of time. Simon can only handle a certain amount of time between cups of coffee and nicotine tablets before collapsing, but we made a real effort to get out there and managed to do about six hours of signing. Although we were frustrated, we would never have treated fans in the way that Notch suggested we did.

We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it. Because of this, we nearly cancelled the trip, but decided to say “balls to it” and come anyway, because we felt we owed it to the fans. Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.

We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free.

The reason we came to Minecon is because we wanted to thank you guys and meet the community that we love and are a part of. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without you guys, and so we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun. This is why we spent our panel giving a voice to loads of talented people that couldn’t attend but have made Minecraft what it is today.

We’re not gonna stop making videos, not going to stop loving you guys, and hopefully we’ll see you at more gaming conventions in the future.

Lewis & Simon & Hannah

my last post on this dog doo
It's likely the entire Yogscast scenario is just stress related misunderstanding. I apologize for bringing it online before talking to them.
yeah, something's wrong with this guy. and uh why did he wait (well over 24 hours) until yogscast released their reply before saying "hey maybe I was wrong..."

just think of the thousands of minecraft fans who quoted notch and unsubbed yogscast in martyrdom (this is no exaggeration, the most enraged gamers I've seen since gamesmasterjasper). what will they think now that he tweeted this?? I only hope it makes em realize this guy isn't anyone to idolize or look up to. he's just a big dummy who stumbled upon a commercially successful game and is currently the frontman of an astoundingly inept company

Absolutely right. Also, some stupid fans ddosed the yogs' site to the ground. I hope Notch learns more about maturity and responsibility, he doesn't know how people react to public statements. He's very unprofessional and is a stubborn retarded being.

Also this is Notch's reply to the reddit post:

Fair enough.

I've never played Minecraft (well, except for about two minutes) but even to me it's surprisingly clear that Notch is a gigantic manbaby.

Gigantic manbaby? I don't get it, can some one explain? I get that he was a bit stupid and didn't think what would happen when he made that comment, but .. or is that all there is to it?

i don't know a thing about minecraft/never played it once but i love gossip. can someone summarize this for me? it sounds absolutely insane. isn't minecraft just some indie game? how the fuck do they have such a fanbase where one of these people even recognizes one of the creators irl let alone actually assaults them at the airport over some internet beef. jesus christ.
Someone else can explain it better but he basically made a big rant about Yogscast (a big Minecraft community Thing) about something that turned out to be false. Not just in private but on his Twitter account. Mind you he has like a billion followers and it's basically the company's account. Apparently this also led to some dude hurling profanities at the Yogscast guys at the airport, and some other people DDoSing their site.

And afterwards basically refused to apologize for it too.

Aside from that the Minecon convention was also set up shoddily, Mojang sold the rights to air Yogscast's show without their consent even though they didn't even get paid to go.

Mojang are basically a bunch of misogynistic nerds who care only about making as much money as possible off of other people's work, and Notch is an extremely unintelligent manchild.

(Someone tell me if I'm wrong here, I don't play Minecraft and I'm certainly not part of the community but this is how I understand things.)

edit: Funny though that one of Notch's tweets was him complaining about how the Yogscast guys act like "spoiled divas".

On the topic of notch owning mc. he has stepped down as the primary dev and handed the magic wand to Jeb (the secondary dev of mc) and it's also said that they'll hire a new ai programmer so i guess the next updates would be fun. also i hate the direction notch was heading with mc, the end etc..

I've lost interest in Minecraft, they have changed it too much.

Maybe eventually try to get back into it, idk yet... It seems like a constant battle to keep up with all the new shit.
Reminds me of the days I would play Everquest, I spend forever trying to reach the lv cap or get through a new expansion before a new one was released.. spend another few months trying to play through some of the newer expansion before another release, it was a fucking constant battle that I couldnt be bothered to fight.

I could go on for hours about what I think of minecraft and mojang. immensely successful game by an incredibly awful company full of complete imbeciles. maybe jeb will be better I don't really know anything about him besides that he's some nerd who got hired because he's notch's friend. at least he doesn't seem like a totally incompetent and dangerously immature and unfunny man-child like notch

nope you hit the nail on the head!! though actually I don't get the misogynistic part. there's no way I could possibly know everything awful they've done though

and that comment you linked is pretty good, but he is a little too quick to praise mojang. minecraft is essentially an adaptation of an earlier game by someone else, called infiniminer. very little creativity--at least, DECENT, insightful creativity--went into it since minecraft classic.

yogscast is a group of gamers who do playthrough videos and stuff. in that vein, they're actually pretty decent, and seem to have a pretty good taste in games. they are responsible for huge part of minecraft's popularity. notch never gave a shit, and even sold the rights to their minecraft playthroughs without their consent. snd if they actually said any of those things about mojang, they were all apt and well-deserved

edit: obviously I enjoy playing minecraft but that's not the point

edit: here's the former "devblog" of minecraft just for a sense of how annoying this guy is, don't read any of it though it's all just him prattling on about absolutely nothing http://notch.tumblr.com/ previously, while waiting for update information, readers would have to sift through posts upon posts of him making exclamations about how good Dragon Age is or what kind of super expensive vacations he was going on and you just generally got the sense that this guy has no idea how to run a business even before you knew it to be a fact

When I read that part of the comment I thought "ah, he's just raking in some fairness credz so people will take his rant more seriously". Because yeah this is rather important, the whole concept is basically stolen from something else. Now that Notch has a burlap bag full of goldcoins he can go on a long vacation while someone else takes over.

What a shit fest. I'm reserving my personal judgement for Notch though till something more happens on either end. (or if it doesn't)

Wont stop me from continuing to play Minecraft. I like what they've added thus far really. *shrugs* With maybe the exception of how enchantments work (and how not-worthwhile the the "higher tiered" ones are). But since Minecraft constantly updates I assume that shit will get fixed.

Don't count on lots of updates now it's released. Notch was lazy as is, and now the vast majority of Mojang's time is focused on Scrolls (which looks like an excuse to sell lots of DLC)

yeah, I'm thinking any future updates are gonna be pretty minor aesthetic shit, like the majority of the updates from the start of alpha up to the adventure updates. and scrolls sound really bad but it will probably make them a ton of money

you punch trees.

Also, it's gotten dull. Notch lost it and the lack of updates is demotivating.

ya, I think one of the reasons the game managed to stay interesting and exciting is because we always knew something more was coming. unfortunately that 'something more' ended up being lackluster and unfinished, and now we've only got minor improvements and bug fixes to look forward to

I'll try it again whenever my RSI heals, but until then I really hope everyone starts to realize this isn't that great of a game. positive feelings towards it were like 40% hype, 40% development excitement

minecraft and creeper should be among the banned words for 2012
