I have such a massive backlog that I have not even played any 2011 indie games yet.

I DID just beat Darwinia though. And it was pretty fantastic.

Other games I play on and off all year, being from indie devs, Killing Floor and Minecraft. Are also excellent.

My older brother played bastion and liked it a lot. And he usually doesn't play indie games.

If we're counting X-Box Live Indie games, the best game of the year was Sequence. It's a mix of a DDR game and an RPG. The storyline is well written and the gameplay is alot of fun. I don't remember if it was 3 or 5 dollars but either way it's WELL worth it.

the only others I've played besides ludum dare stuff are minecraft and NightSky, which I'm playing now. it's pretty good so far, but nifflas's stuff is getting a little tedious. all of his games are little too similar to each other. and so far it seems like he could have done a lot more with the nightsky aesthetic than silhouettes against a gradient

treasure adventure game looks good.

I'd have to say that Bastion is the best indie game of 2011. I also liked Costume Quest, but that was released in 2010 (2011 on PC).

i've only played freeware ones so i can't comment on Bastion or Minecraft or Terraria or Four Winds Fantasy

even tho i contributed to it i really liked the IGF Pirate Kart which was basically just a giant (1.4gb or something) compilation of short goofy games with a loader stuck in that got submitted to the Indie Games Fest. lots of 2hour klik n play games, lots of jokey stuff and terrible ideas and cool ideas (turn-based pong was a favourite) (also Shit Snake) and repurposed default art and ideas. flicking from one strange fragment and seeing what was going on with each one and how they commented on / mocked / contradicted / expanded on each other was probably the most fun i've had playing a videogame in the last two years or so!! website is artgam.es.

otherwise i really liked Bat Castle and Bonkey Trek. i'm sure there are others but they slip my mind at the moment!
