It's funny, in the front of my mind I am thinking "How could the author consciously write something like this without even considering the possibility that people would overwhelmingly criticize what she writes as racism", but in the back of my mind I start thinking "well actually, I can't imagine a book like this being ever written by anyone EXCEPT the one person who never even considered such a possibility in the first place."

Yeah, I don't think the writer had any idea of how people would respond to her book from what I've read about it.

I think the idea of "Black people are the majority" could possibly be pulled off with the right writer or message behind it (like how the color of skin doesn't affect how a society is ran or something.) However, she clearly was not the right writer and she used it as a background for a generic Young Adult romance book that clumsily and insensitively dealt with race.

it's important not to necessarily correlate majority with privilege w/r/t race, the history of post-colonial africa is the story of minority white populations oppressing black and maghreb africans

i do, but i also smoke so i'm at that point where i'll go on a 2-4 mile run once or twice a week and every other day I hit the treadmill, that's it though. I have some friends that are completely insane and go on like 15 mile trail runs and shit. their knees are toast in like 10 years i bet.
