Did anyone play Ambrosia's Escape Velocity games. I would love to talk about space exploration games like that, because I haven't played most of the influential games in the genre, like Star Control (I only played a little bit of the 3do port of the sequel) or Elite, for ZX Spectrum, which I understand is the original.
EV: Override was a personal favorite of mine, it really emphasized the exploration aspect of space games. The player could unlock opportunities beyond human space and even turn the tide of the war by going to the right planets.

damn this thread reminds me of those "2000+ COMPUTER GAMES AND MORE" cd-roms i used to get from fred meyer for $5 when i was a kid. hours and hours in bad interfaces and getting scared when dos games froze while emitting loud high-pitched sound effects aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

speaking of odd birds who played septerra core

(unintentional bird reference actually becomes meaningful if you played it)
good concepts, bad execution. unplayable without the battle skip cheap, like the length of the battle animations in this game puts japanese games to shame. still interesting as heck tho

this is a very powerful topic (ps hi fuckcrypt i like your websites). with aim of contributing i started playing Defender Of Boston: The Rock Island Mystery mainly because i like the abstract fragmented gui. but i stopped playing after a few minutes of fighting unlimited stray dogs in the middle of a sterile wasteland space devoid of human activity since i get enough of that sh*t in real life.

report...

i think all the face graphics for this were just digitised movie actors. i think one of them was columbo so i decided i would be rp'ing a columbo.

this is the end of my journey but i may resume to try using some of the impressively thorough verb commands or to see how whatever supernatural mystery plot is developing fits into the gameplay (you pommol the shoggoth! you miss! you pommol the shoggoth! you miss!)
