Basically it states that stuff such as photons will behave either as waves (for example, photons creating an interference pattern in a double slit experiment when a single photon is fired at a solid thing between two slits, something a particle couldn't do) or as particles (evidenced by the same fucking photons NOT creating an interference pattern in the very same experiment when there is the possibility of knowing which slit the photon travels through).

Do you have faith in that kind of thing? I do. I think reality is absurd and the more you look into it, the more you understand it, the less sense it actually makes.

Also post about interesting things related to things. Explain quantum chromodynamics to me. Quantum tunneling, entangled pairs, photoelectric effect, particle spin, angular momentum, electrical charge, tensor fields, feynman diagrams, everything else. Also how can photons bind electrons and nuclei together without God? How do massless photons mediate magnetism? Exactly how does muon decay prove relativity?

Educate me. Tell me about stuff smart people understand.

Also: do you believe consciousness causes wave function collapse?

The concept of wave function collapse is what caused my conviction in scientific thought to be transformed into a kind of faith. What I believe now is that it is entirely possible for events to occur in a rational world that we can take as fact, while also accepting that those same events will never make rational sense to us in our ability to observe and understand them.

Also: do you believe consciousness causes wave function collapse?

Not exactly, but I do believe wave function collapse somehow causes consciousness. I also believe it is the reason why science has yet to be able to explain just how consciousness itself works.

Waves are made of DMT your brain is made of DMT and when u die all the DMT drops in it at the same time and all your particles ur physical body are made out up of transform into waves at the same time.

There's no wave-particle duality to begin with. Everything is like a probabilistic quantum wave. It just appears classical when you're constantly observing it. http://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/0609163

Hey So As Some Of U Might No This Year Is 2012 And It's The Year It Said In The Mayan Bible That Some Crazy Shit Might Go Down. So Basically I Wanted To Start This Thread Because Theres A Lot Of Theories Going Around About Diff Stuff That Might Happen On 2012 And Basically I Thought Some Of U Might Have Some Good Ideas About It And U Can Share It In This Thread. I Heard A Theory About The Numerological Signifigance Of 2012 And Some Mathamtecians Said The Reasons Its Special Is Because 2012 Is A Palindrome Cuz If U Think About It The 0 Doesnt Count For Anything Cause Its 0 So If You Just Count The Other Number Its The Same Backwards And Forwards At The Same Time. Also I Heard A Theory That The 2012 Is Significant Becaquse ITs The Year Of The Ultimate Wave Cuz On 2012 All The Partlicles are Going To Collapse Into A Huge Wave And All The Dmt Is Gonna Drop In Everyones Brains At One And Also The M In DMT Is an Upside Down W, For Wave. So Basically Taqhts My Theory And I wodnering If There Anything Else U Want To Share. Thanks Peace Out

Also I Heard A Theory About Gay Rights And I Wonder If Any Of U Heard About This But Basically They Say Gays Should Have Right Because Scientists Are Saying That Its Hardwired In Their Brains So Basically They Don't Have Any Choice They Make So they Shouldnt Be Punished For It Because Its In There Brains. So Basically I Was Wondering That If Thats In Their Brains Do U Think That Theres Other Stuff In Ppls Brains Too Like And It Might Get Swtiched On On 2012 Like People Might Secretly Have Different Magic Powers So Gay People Would Be One Kind Of Mutant And YOu Would Get Different Magic Like Based On Whats In Your Brain. Basically My Theory Is That The 2012 Is The Year Magic Becomes Real And U Are On Different Teams And Get A Different Power Based On The Hardwire Like Computer In Your brain. So Im Straight And I Might Get a Bird Power But Gay Ppl Might Be A Quetzalcoatl. Wondering What U Thnik About This.

If You Really Want to Know my Opinion on Gay Rights. I Whole-Heatedly Know That Sexual Orientation is Wired In Your Brain at Birth and is 100% Not a Choice. Do You Want to Know How I Know This For Certain? It's Simple. If Sexual Orientation Was Actually Something I Could Choose For Myself, I Would Choose To Only Be Turned On By Non-Consenting Sex Performed Exclusively on Pimps and Rapists, So That I Could Use My Sexual Orientation To Bring Justice By Showing Them How They Make The People They Victimize Feel. In The Case of Raping Pimps I Would Gladly Pay Him Afterwards Because I Have No Fear of Getting Charged With Rape Against A Pimp, Because What Pimp in His Right Mind Would Choose To Admit To Being Raped? His Reputation And Therefore His Business Would Be Ruined. If I Got Enough Of A Reputation at Raping Rapists, I am Sure The Cops Would Eventually Start To Look The Other Way Because I Would Be The Only Member of Society Willing To Do The Job That Nobody Else Would.

I Have No Opinion On Whether or Not Post-2012 Would Cause X-Men To Be A Real Thing, But if Sexual Orientation Was A Choice I Would Choose To Be The Batman of Rape.

I didn't read this yet but I figured I should post so save other people the work of doing the same thing:
I did a quick credibility check and despite the fact it says "to appear", it has actually been published in Foundations of Physics (I read the other day that some people put "to appear" on not-yet-accepted work) and Foundations of Physics appears reputable, as it has had several nobel laureates on its editorial board. Not that this qualifies the content as truth, but that it qualifies it as accepted by the academic establishment. I look forward to reading through it because the few discussions I had with my theoretical physics qualified flatmate left me with a lot of questions about what the accepted doctrine really is and where the conflicts are. He used a lot of normative statements and represented physics as fairly conflict-free so I'm interested to read something that doesn't.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that despite it being on arXiv it was published by a reputable, mainstream journal. The explanations it gives (haven't read the entire paper, actually) correspond to what I've read about it from other good sources.

I Want to Believe

that paper looks really interesting, i'm just getting back into chem and physics but it looks easy to read so i will have a gander.

Somewhat on the subject of quantum mechanics, have you guys heard of that Black Light Power inc shit and its founder who says there are fractional (sub ground) states of hydrogen (ie 1/p where p=2 to 137 iirc), and that a catalytic reaction of those "hydrinos" can produce 200x the energy as combustion. Short version: http://spectrum.ieee.org/energy/nuclear/loser-hot-or-not Long version: http://www.blacklightpower.com/papers/21cm-1%20paper%20080210S.pdf (actual paper on the "new" states of hydrogen) and http://www.blacklightpower.com/papers/WFC112108Web030509citupdS.pdf (on the potential commercialization of the reactions as an energy source)

Maybe it's old news by now but I wrote a report ("Babby's fIrst physiks repot: black light pwoer, science or ficition??") on it recently based on their papers. Basically if it's true, we can use water as fuel and explain dark matter (supposedly the hydrinos have the same characteristics as dark matter). And of course a huge part of quantum physics would be disproved. So of course Mills has a lot of convincing to do, especially considering he apparently hasn't found hydrinos beyond the first few 1/p states that supposedly exist. (He only mathematically proved it, but some nobel prize winner or someone called him out on errors in his calculations anyway.) What dost thou think...

i just keep on imagining that episode of the simpsons or something where people are filling up their cars with water at a station

I BELIEVE

i believe in science cuz it's not religion and the problem with religion was god and not the rigid dogmatism associated with those beliefs and i believe in science because it lets me be a god which is cool because then i can be a technowizard and i always wanted to be a wizard when i used to play tabl;etop rpgs like exalted and stuff but honestly i wanted to be an occult lawyer in that game anyway all i'm saying is science is cool if you like magic and gods and rituals

Honestly I trust science and believe in God;I think the two can complement each other. Scientific fact can tell us how this world exists, but we, through religion, morality, and ethics have to find our own answers to WHY it exists and what our purpose is here on Earth.  If you actually look, many scientists were also deeply religious; it does not have to be a contradiction. I prefer to believe that there's a purpose to this universe, but I suppose that's a matter of choice.   Both science and religion are among the many tools for viewing and exploring the world; in the long run, neither may be sufficient alone. I in fact hope that the universe, and those within it, will always continue to surprise our heart, mind, and soul.
Everyone has the right to be himself; wise men know how to,when, and whether to navigate the boundary between their rights and those of others when they collide.
