Hey everybody,
it's time to talk about everyone's favorite subject, jobs.

I'm going to graduating this May with degrees in General Biology and Psychology.   I've got an internship set up for the summer, and could be potentially going to grad school in the Spring for public health.   However,  I originally had a temporary job lined up for the fall that I was hoping to use as an income source while I took some time off to work on music, and just not deal with school related things for  a while, but for various reasons that has fallen through. (Or is likely going to fall through, in that I can't count on it at this point anyways).

Does anybody know of any good jobs to look for for just a few months, and where to look at them for?   It doesn't really have to be anything related to my major, but I would like to have to avoid meanial jobs as much as possible, so that I can have something where I would be able to afford rent, food, nourishment, etc.

You could offer science tuition, but I guess the schools are closed over there for the summer when you graduate?

Otherwise, in all honesty barwork is a pretty good way to go. It's fairly fun and social, there tends to be many hours available (if, like in the UK, bar opening times can really vary anyway).

Elsewise I don't really know. Like when I temped for a while I did DATA PROCESSING, which I found to be really fun (weirdly), but I guess that counts as menial or?

Good luck regardless.

I am less concerned about menial, I prefer menial over penniless.

steal pets from rich people, wait a couple days, and when you see shit posted all over town go collect your reward. if you make up some sob story about the dog/cat/parakeet/pet rock coming up to your house on a rainy night whimpering you may be able to get a couple extra bucks out of them or a PIE or something. also be prepared with some story about collecting money for a church or something in case you get to their house and see an uncomfortable amount of religious shit, as this could literally increase your payout tenfold.

and if you never see any wanted signs for the pet you can just assume they didn't want that stupid creature in the first place so you can skin it, cook it, and feed it to the homeless to get some of those lost karma points back.

EDIT: do not try this in a white neighborhood if you are black.

Where are you from again ATARI? Like that'll have an impact on the jobs available for sure.

catering can pay pretty well, and they're usually looking for temp workers.  this is probably more feasible if you're in a big city / campus.

i have some pretty low preconceived notions of mturk.  i'm going to be in the same situation between semesters though, but won't have to worry about rent.  what would you say a decent 20-30 hour week of mturk work (heh) pays?

amazon's crowd sourcing platform where there are jobs that you do for very small amounts of money.  like a company has a database of images, and one of them is a goat, and you see the picture of the goat and type "it's a goat" and you get 2 cents, amazon gets .5 cents, and the company knows that's a picture of a goat

it's really hard to find 20-30 hours a week of non-insane work on mturk so I dunno. But for a while Amazon.com needed help categorizing its junk and I managed to make like $200 in a week

I second bartending or some kind of food service, its the easiest to get into. You're a good musician though I can't believe you can't get gigs playing at various bars everynight to make some cash. You'd prolly have to play shit music most often though.

can't rely on that.  I'm doing a few shows this summer, and I'm working on setting up some more and hopefully that will translate to doing shows in the fall.  But either way I can't rely on that for an income.

I'm not talking about shows as much as just playing a few songs acoustic with your guitar or something like that. They do it all the time on bourbon street people play everynight they just play requests and random sets of rock "classics"

but yeah its not a solid source of income either I guess

Yeah I know what you mean.  The thing is I don't really live in a particularly large town, and so I don't think there would be nearly as much of an audience for that sort of thing (as in, we've only go few or so bars in a town of about 80,000?)

not till next friday, which is kinda balls because i'd really like to get this thing moving.  But on the other hand I've got finals all this week, and so it'll be one less thing to worry about.

still interested in looking into other oppurtunities should this not pan out though (Although I think I'm a pretty strong candidate for the position based on previous interactions with the person I'm going to be interviewing with)
