HERE IT IS THIS IS ONE???

uh i am pretty much always looking for new iphone games so here's a topic for us to discuss iphone games ? ? ?  i'm just gonna go through and write up a little bit about some games i particularly like.  Also I guess if you wanna talk about cool android/whatever games that's cool too!  I have my games arranged into folders that are sorta by genre so I guess I'll sort this out the same way:

Board Games
BANG!
BANG! is a card game with a Mafia/Werewolf-style twist.  It's western themed, with each player taking on one of a handful of different roles.  Each role has their own objective to win the game.  It's pretty simple to pick up and the games aren't too long so it's good for on the go.  It's got single player with AI, pass and play and online multiplayer, though I've not tried out any of the multiplayer options.

Carcassonne
If you aren't already familiar with Carcassonne then this is a good way to try it out!  The iPhone version comes with a tutorial to teach you the basics of the game (and it's pretty simple, I had no problem teaching an 8 year old to play it with me).  It has a normal mode with both online and offline (pass and play) multiplayer as well as a single player mode vs Ai and a solitaire mode with its own objectives that I forget right now since I've not played it many times.  It's just an incredibly well put together version of Carcassonne and the touch screen lends itself VERY WELL to this game.

Catan
Much like Carcassonne, Catan is a very good port of the board game.  It has plenty of customization options to set up the game the way you want it.  It also has tutorials for those of you who aren't familiar with the game, which I think from my past experience Catan is a game that has always done a very good job with their tutorials.  There's pass and play local multiplayer but I don't *think* that there's online multiplayer (not sure about this).  There's a campaign mode that requires an in-app expansion purchase (pretty sure it comes with a few other things), I haven't bought that yet but I plan to.  You can have plenty of fun with this just playing the base game though.  It has several AI characters that all play different strategies at different difficulty levels, so even single player you get some level of strategy based on who your opponents are.  Just another solid board game package.

High Society
This game doesn't have much going for it graphics-wise, but the gameplay here is pretty solid.  High Society is a card game based around bidding.  Essentially the idea is that, as a high-society individual, you must bid on as many luxury items as you can without spending TOO much, because otherwise everyone else would find out you don't have any money.  Incredibly petty, but makes for an incredibly fun card game.  It's an incredibly good game for just playing in short bursts when you have a few minutes to kill.  One drawback is that as far as I know there's no multiplayer of any sort, but like I said it's a good game to play for a few minutes on your own and it's really easy to learn.

Ticket To Ride Pocket
I cannot express enough how happy I am that they finally released a version of this game for the iPhone.  I'm a huge fan of Ticket To Ride.  It's a board game based around building railroads around America (and based on the way the Xbox version was released, I expect to see at LEAST the Europe board put on the iPhone sometime in the future).  You've got solo play, local multiplayer over wifi or bluetooth (a nice feature), online multiplayer and pass and play.  It's really nice to see all these options for a game like this.  It's definitely the most fun with friends like most board games, but it's still absolutely addictive to play it single player as well, and there's several AI difficulties to keep it interesting.  I can't recommend this game enough, and the iPhone port is spectacular and really well polished.  The controls work out very well too.

Puzzle Games
Crosslogic
A picross/nonogram game with a good interface and a TONNNNN of puzzles.  Like, almost 2000.  It doesn't really bother itself with intro-level stuff since it starts off with 10x10s and goes pretty quickly to being 15x15s from then on, so you need to get the basics elsewhere if you don't already know how these puzzles work.  For that, I'd recommend PicGrid which is all 5x5 and 10x10 puzzles and I think has at least SOME sort of tutorial (but if you know the general rules of the puzzles the 5x5s should be pretty doable)

ChuChu Rocket
This is basically just a port of the dreamcast game, so I don't have much to say about it other than It's There.  Like, this is basically just letting you know that if you like ChuChu Rocket you can get it for the iPhone.

Lumines
If you like Lumines then check the iPhone version out.  They did a surprisingly good job with making it comfortable to play with touch controls.

Mr. Driller
Same as ChuChu Rocket, basically You Can Get Mr. Driller On The iPhone so if you like Mr. Driller it's just as fun on the iPhone as anywhere else.

Pexers Tower
we have a topic for this one ! ! !

going to post this and do a horrid double post just out of the fear that i'll hit something and lose this whole post

Retro Games
The 7th Guest
Uh I don't think I need to tell you guys for the millionth time how much I love The 7th Guest because you've all heard me talk about it before by now.  It's an FMV PC game from the early 90s, a puzzle game with a bit of a point and click adventure game overlaid on it.  They ported it to the iPhone and it's a pretty dang good port.  The graphics look good (well, as good as they ever can haha) and the sound is good and everything, basically the game is exactly how I remember it as a kid.  They did a good job updating the controls to work with the iPhone, like adding a cursor zoom so you can see what you're clicking properly.  This was my biggest worry, since porting a PC game to the iPhone is a pretty daunting task.  The game still spooks me really bad so if you like horror stories and puzzles check it out.  I was glad that they took out the nearly unbeatable microscope puzzle everyone complained about (especially since it would be hard to do on a small screen anyway).  They actually took that puzzle (more of a minigame really) and made an updated one with proper non-awful AI for the iPad, but I don't have one so I've not checked it out.  If you have one, it might be worth trying idk!

Alter Ego
Alter Ego was originally a DOS/C64/etc. game in the mid 80s, but it has been ported to a lot of things since.  I'll describe the game, but if you just want to try it out you can play a browser-based version here.  I was actually really excited to see this game on the iPhone, since it's a lot more comfortable than playing the browser version on the iPhone's browser.  It's essentially a text-based game where you play through a human life.  You're presented with scenarios, frequently about fairly minor life decisions (though some are major, and you can in fact die), and a few options for how you will respond.  It's one of my favorite games to play when I want to play something that doesn't demand constant attention.  If you like decision-based games try it out, it is really interesting.  Even if it doesn't totally grip you, you might at least enjoy it for the duration of one lifespan (and you can skip to the next life stage if you get too bored with the current one, after the millionth time I get really tired of playing the baby/childhood stages).

Brain Dead 13
Another old FMV game, Brain Dead 13 was a huge game in my childhood.  I watched my brother play this game tons of times as a kid.  It's got a cool vibe and it can be pretty funny at times.  The gameplay however isn't necessarily the best--it's essentially the same sort of fast-input gameplay Dragon's Lair has, although the iPhone version gives you way more help where that's concerned.  It's still a fun game to experience though.

C64
This isn't a game by itself, but there's a C64 emulator in the iPhone app store.  It has a variety of games you can download, though most seem to be smaller-name games.  It even has Commodore Basic in case you desperately want to code some Basic on your iPhone.  Might be worth checking out if any of the C64 games available for it are of any interest to you.

Capcom Arcade
Sort of like C64, this isn't a game by itself but is instead a platform for games.  It's a virtual arcade filled with Capcom classics.  It's important to note before you check this out though that although the app is free, the games are in-app purchases.  However, you can still play free.  Basically, you're given a certain amount of free-play tickets once a day that you can use on any of the machines.  So, if you just play it occasionally it's totally free, but if you like a particular game a lot you can buy the machine and play as much as you want.  I think the machines are 99c each, so it's not bad.  They add new games occasionally, but at the moment they have a variety of the versions of SF2, 1942, Ghouls n Ghosts, Commando, Ghosts n Goblins, 1943, Final Fight, Super Ghouls n Ghosts and Magic Sword.  The controls are pretty good, not excellent although they do let you move them around on the screen a bit to get them to a comfortable spot for you.  I don't really care for iPhone games with d-pad/button controls since it's weird to not be able to feel them but it does a good job and I like being able to play Ghosts n Goblins on the go (especially since I wasn't a huge fan of the iPhone-specific GnG games)

Dragon's Lair
Basically everything I said about Brain Dead 13 goes here.  If you like Dragon's Lair, you'll like Dragon's Lair on the iPhone.  Also, if you found Dragon's Lair far too hard back in the day, the iPhone version has button prompts so you have way more of an idea what you should be doing and when than you did in the original.  The game looks nice and clean on the iPhone, as it should since I think the game has been released in Bluray format.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene
I grabbed this because I loved the PS3 version of this.  The iPhone version doesn't grab me quite as well, perhaps because the controls feel a bit weird to me, but I also can't say that I wouldn't recommend it.  It's still a solid game and if you're into Space Invaders you should give it a try at least.

SkiFree
I think the version on the app store renamed itself to "FreeSki" but seriously this is just a port of Ski Free for the iPhone and it rules.  And when I say port, I mean port, not remake or knockoff or whatever.  We're talkin original graphics and everything.  The touch controls work very well for it, so there's nothing much I can add besides It's SkiFree.

Indie Games
Bonkey Trek
Another game made by our main man QUIMDUNG, Bonkey Trek is a port of the flash game that I think made its rounds around here a while back.  Just...just check it out ok???

Drift Sumi-e
This is a surprisingly cool game idea.  Drift Sumi-e is (as the title implies) a drift racing game with a sumi-e art style.  However, you don't control you car directly.  You control the car by tracing your finger along the track as quickly as you can while still hitting the right spots.  You then see your car drive along the sumi-e ink path you drew, drifting as it goes.  You're scored based on your speed and your accuracy.  It's a fun, short game to play here and there and the art style is seriously neat.

Magnetic Shaving Derby
This is another fun game to play for a few minutes with some pretty dang cool graphics.  In this game, you're given a huge face, a razor blade and a magnet.  Using the magnet, you have to move the blade around the face to shave all the hair off, while not cutting anything else.  Occasionally the polarity will be reversed, causing your magnet to drive the blade away instead of attracting it.  It's very simple, but very engaging.

Pro Zombie Soccer
This game was made for touch screens for sure.  Pro Zombie Soccer is a game in which you have to fight off waves of zombies using a powerful soccer ball.  The game has a decent amount of story to it, but the gameplay is what makes it so good.  After all, I'm sick as FUCK of zombies, but the gameplay of this game made up for how much I don't want to see zombies anymore.  You've got to aim your ball just right to hit them, and there are different types of zombies that require different strategies.  There's also powerups and what have you that add a bit more variety.

So Long, Oregon!
I really REALLY dig this game.  Essentially, the creator has taken the idea and graphics of Oregon Trail and replaced the gameplay with that of something like Excitebike or Trials HD.  You've got to send your wagon over hills quickly and keep your balance, while still doing the regular Oregon Trail deal of stopping in towns and shooting at animals.  Your goal is to reach El Dorado and fill your wagon with gold.  However, once you get that gold, you now have to drive your wagon in reverse back to Oregon.  It's an incredibly cool game and really fun, although very challenging.

Tiny Tower
I don't even know how to recommend Tiny Tower because I feel like there's not much separating it from something like a Facebook game and yet it is entirely engaging and has the coolest style and a good sense of humor and the creators are really cool and I like checking in on my tower every now and then and oh god there is no way for me to explain why this is good but it is

Other Games
Derby Quest
I almost hesitate to recommend this game because idk if anyone but me would give a shit about it but it's a surprisingly detailed horse raising/racing sim.  It's basically exactly what I wanted, which is a portable game like Derby Owner's Club in the arcade.  Of course, I don't know if anyone else wants it.  If you want to breed horses and race them then this is probably the best game you'll find on the iPhone (and has 3D graphics to boot!) but of course you have to want to play a horse game or else you probably won't like it.

Worms Golf
Team17 essentially had the idea to take the basic engine/gameplay of Worms and use it for a minigolf game.  It's about as fantastic as you'd expect.  I only got this game recently, but it's been a really fun one.

What about Android? Though to be honest my phone's hardware isn't really up to snuff anyway.

I don't have one so I can't really tell you much about Android games unless any of the games I've posted have Android versions.  Sorry ! ! !  I'd like it if Android users would post the cool games they have tho this doesn't have to just be an iPhone thread.

i dont game on my phone but thats because its a super slow entry level android (optimus s)

Yeah, I can understand that.  But man, I play way more games on my iPhone than I do on my DS/3DS.  I mean, I'll always have a reason to have those because of licensed games that I don't see coming to the iPhone anytime soon and there are definitely games that are more comfortable to play with proper buttons, but as far as just games to play on the go the iPhone is way easier to deal with since I already have it and whatnot.

Also another thing I wanted to add is I'm going to add a GameCenter list to the OP so post your username and let's add each other???

I also forgot to add these to the games I just mentioned but I'll just briefly say that both the first Phoenix Wright and Ghost Trick are available for the iPhone if you don't have a DS and feel like you missed out on them.  Both are INSANELY good games, and although I haven't tried the iOS version of Ghost Trick, I can tell you that the Phoenix Wright port is top notch.

I'm not sure about Bang! but I'm pretty sure that the same version of Catan that's on iOS is available for Android.

Yeah, you are right. I can't even find ticket to ride on the android market, but I did find Catan despite reviews saying the Iphone version looks and plays smoother. (Its a real shame they didn't call it "Catandroid")

Anybody know where I could find some good (free) Android 'dual stick shooters'? Or even a free FPS (I imagine a little less likely) or RPG games?

I recently got a new phone for free and it can actually play games pretty well so I guess I'm finally joining the mass market casual crowd of phone games.

My main issue is that I can't spend any money on them. So free only for me.
