That's not what a googlebot is. Googlebots/indexing spiders just crawl around the site indexing everything. They don't create an account they just browse (that's why there's always like 30 guests on the forum). Spambots are what post spam like tramadol/etc.

All we really need is a captcha to prevent spambots, for the most part. Not sure if that functionality is built in or not (it is on IPB) but Dada has been manually killing those accounts when they show up. Can't really prevent indexing spiders though, except by passwording or otherwise protecting a forum. I don't know about the options on IPB but if you can make a forum that's only available to members (not guests) then that would work fine, it doesn't need to be SUPER SECRET or anything, that wasn't my point with it at all.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

Unfortunately spamming has been outsourced to China/India/etc. They auto-register an account, then when they have to type in the captcha the whole image is sent to some human farm where people working probably 18 hours a day type them in. We already have a pretty hardcore captcha on this forum.

i'm pr much first focusing on that stuff after/when we get the mainsite/platform done and up. and i mean uh wait patiently, not the end of the world/i'm kind of expecting (note!! expecting!!) from dada that if he has problems then he speaks up (good luck with programming and fibryosis!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!! These Noble Friends) and not boil/depressy over his problems. idk if this makes sense but once it's up, you can really start taking this seriously, maybe it sounds offending but it's hard to explain exactly. like people here are cool but i don't wanna fantasize about anything. keepin it real yo. sorry, too little sleep. going to sleep.

because what would happen by then anyways is that you'd have to think over that what the hell this means to you anyways, what's the meaning of anything... forum existentialism

Unfortunately I've been really busy with work lately, but I've at least taken the first steps needed to convert the forum. Wish I had more to tell you guys but I guess you'll have to sit tight for a bit longer. The first step is to convert the forum to IPB. That won't be very difficult. After that I'll just need GR's saltworld domain name, and to get someone to do the system administration for the new server (since I'm bad at that). But I'm pretty sure Ruben can help with that.

I'm tired of having shitty forum software that doesn't work and can't even do basic things like create passworded forums. But don't worry about it I actually have a job unlike you louts so I can Buy Things.

Update: converting old forum to IPB. Just a test for now to see if everything works. Actual conversion will happen after we've tested this and set up the new domain name.

Yoooo what a mean thing to say to someone struggling to find work. you're rude.

passworded forums seems like a pretty dumb feature to me. most forum software already has perfectly good (or at least functional) authentication and at least some form of RBACS so that takes care of that? I'm stupid but I can't think of a usecase where you'd need passworded forums on top of that unless you had people with different rights sharing accounts or you wanted restricted sections still useable only by certain anonymous people

i've had to do SMF integration before though and it's a poop so I know where you're coming from. if you have the money to spend on something better then lucky us!

Passworded forums are pretty useful because they allow a group of members to work on a project together in a forum that's inaccessible to other people.
Right now I have to make a new member group for everybody who wants a special forum, and what if some members are part of multiple projects?

Yeah I think passworded forums are necessary.
