I like dad's restarting every week system but a week is kind of short. I'd go monthly. That is assuming an actual RPG system was implemented. Which to me sounds interesting and fun personally but isn't really necessary, especially at this point. I think we should take the forum one step at a time and get some more fundamental parts finished.

haha wait was this really being considered at some point?  someone said RPG SYSTEM every time someone asked about improving the site but it was always a joke when i saw it.  was this a real thing at one point?

yeah, but this was like 8 or 9 years ago maybe?  and it was main site only.  I think the most that ever came of it was a single screenshot of the battle screen or whatever.  but it was pretty hyped up for a while there iirc.

also I was not serious about implementing an rpg system.  I was just wondering if anybody remembered gw arena.

perhaps posting didn't actually have anything to do with gaining xp.

maybe this was all just a joke but you should think about a. how useless pips are and b.certainly intimidating to new members vs old members, gotta... gotta measure up... adult or not. i mean groan what's with the measuring of stuff... grunt... pips or tits, choose ya nerd losers... bawdy_buddy...

EDIT like, we're SOOOOO done with this discussion *close-slams door right in front of velfarre* ?B^B ahahah just realized that bonzi emoticon... groannn hopefully these won't become more popular, like how'd ya feel your soul and face begin to be used like a lolcat or somefin...

this. Also please no GW Arena. Our plans for SW's future need to be basic at this stage so they actually happen and for those of us who don't love RPGS anymore I don't want to be around stuff like I MADE 20 STUPID POSTS THIS WEEK just SO I COULD LVL UP YAY

also I dont agree that adding pips would put off newer users. if you are intimidated by something so little and irrelevant then your a bit silly. aren't we just overthinking it? and aren't we a bit too mature to actually make a lot of shitty posts to up our post count? none of us are 13 anymore, surely it's just a neat feature and that's all?

I agree with this totally. I don't even really like postcounts. I think "thumbs up" or whatever on individual posts is great, because it encourages good posts instead of "a lot" of posts.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

IF ever GW arena is implemented, i don't htink it'd be good to base it off of posts. If sw is leaning towards a content site, then a points reward for actually contributing stuff (articles, art, music, games, etcc..) wouldn't be so bad. And the winrar of every week can have like js/html premium powers or something or just a trophy or changed color name.

?? haven't seen that side of the coin, truly... but actually i would expect less posts because of thumbs up? I mean what incentive is for some folks to chime in if they can just thumbs up posts or topics? isn't that measuring some kind of "success" of a post, shouldn't we encourage all posts, regardless of skin, font, grammar? i welcome all the shitposts in the world, that is my standard and my golden 'columbidae' if you will whoops ahahah sorry i got stuck into catamites world for a moment. but yeah what gives, i don't wanna see more velfarres or others thumbs-upping my butthole-posts (i mean all of my posts are shitposts) and commenting less on stuff. look at the fucking facebook. if you want to encourage, you might as well as say "i really liked that/this post because x" in it's shortness. or hell just "i like this post" but we see those already here and they always were empty itself. yet the latter still happens and i'd argue it's less hazardous than the venom of thumbs, whoops here we go again... let the people decide for themselves, they said... argh idk do what you want

idk, i mean that's true but i guess i'd wanted to see this place shape more up on actual thoughts and posts than the social debris and tbh why do you need post counts, pips or any other measures in EVERY post? like i think it's preferable that you wouldn't give a shit whether the poster is new or old or joined in 1969 or 2012, everybody knows everyone by nick/person already, probably so in the future as well... or maybe it is useful, idk. discerning mods and admins might be necessary to clear up authority issues on topic movings locks etc. that's all profile information than anything needed for posts.

like i'm not extra-adamant on this (and maybe not something to put a weary fight about) but i'm just asking that is this all attributes necessary (for every post) or even counter-productive? we can ALWAYS argue about most of everything that if you're smart you don't care about this stuff at all (which is to a point true) but i think this is an optimization/forum "vision" issue. i'd be NICE to see this stripped down thing happen i guess! and i think it would suit this particulary forum and you don't see it happen in stylish fashion/in it's entirety to my knowledge.

I've seen something like this happen in finnish gaming magazine Pelit's forum and it works pretty swell (plus they have zero tolerance for avatars and signatures, pictures in general but i think they bring some humour and help to discern the users from each other even if they're rapidly changed).

Just look back at GW in the old days with the Polls forum and stuff, and people would just post random shit to get their postcount up. Maybe you never experienced this but believe me it happens. We're not really at risk of this at the moment, and also nobody here cares about postcounts at all so it doesnt' really matter. But if you look at a site like reddit, where people have accumulated "karma" for their posts and comments, people get obsessed with getting more and more, and instead of making reasonable comments they'll just post dumb one-liners or appeal to the lowest-common-denominator in the hope of getting upvotes to get more karma. That's why I think a system that rates an individual post is great, because it's incentive to write good posts and not just "lol" or "^ this" or "me too" and stuff like that. People still can, but they aren't passively getting a +1 every time they do it.

And getting rid of postcounts doesn't discourage posts, it just provides incentive to make good posts. No punishments, I don't agree with that, but at the same time, why "reward" people for making garbage posts? I know nobody here cares, but joining a new forum where everyone has 5k+ posts you just feel like nobody is paying attention to anything you write because you're a NOOB, whereas if you're a new member and a post you made gets like 20 VOTES or something you'll feel pretty good about yourself. That's all. I'm not talking about punishing anyone for anything, just providing some extra encouragement for the things that "we like" and ignoring things "we don't like".

valid points, truly... though i'd say on the last sentence that idk that's pretty much the gw hivemind thing i really don't miss from the old days. you post in THIS esthetic or THIS kind of stuff I/WE like.. like all bonzi or catas posts... even if you don't miss it, i think all kinds of people or guys like Dad or regular gamers or GD people (when they don't politically oppose good changes) like whoever NON-INSPIRING people are necessary for some kind of fresh thoughts, some kind of people that aren't exactly in your wavelenght or hell, are just totally opposite of you. this was the sort of thing we (me and earl) tried to talk about the mince's case but the bullying was discovered so that was that back then. i don't like the whole selection - vibe when you can just, you know, pm the interesting guy/girl and hook up or just keep talking in public/forums and see what happens.

im doin this in the point-counterpoint fashion if u didnt notice btw! its productive...the gains not detoriating right after the cycle...post-cycle...

EDIT like the hiveminding has been happening -just now- /past 2-3 years with the experimental games - part but i'd argue that's just the few of us connecting and being productive in that aspect. i was pr excited of different folks that had their own thing going on too (i wish guana would talk more about cool mathematics stuff, for example, even if the example)

EDIT: WE NEED MORE PEOPLE FROM MARKETTING AREA TO DO CONVOS ABOUT THAT TOO!!! HAHA!!! IM DEAD SERIOUS!! KAB-BOOOOOM!!! thought you knew me!!! haha!!!

I just looked at my post count for the first time in ages. Man over 9000 posts that's insane, anyway...

TBH I wouldn't mind getting rid of either. I think they are both neat little features, but I can see arguments for both sides as well. It doesn't bother me too much so I'd just be happy to let Dada do whatever.

But I really don't like the idea of rating each others topics or posts or liking them. It will sink into elitism I think and I feel like it could actively discourage people from contributing. I know immediately that topics or posts from TheCatamites will get 5x more likes than mine because he's in your little niche and while that doesn't bother me enough not to post, I could imagine feeling that way if I was new. I really hate all the rating and karma stuff on reddit and the more we can distance ourselves from that the better. Why can't we just say that we like a post or think it brought up a good point, rather than just clicking a +1 on it.

And dumb short posts have their places on forums as much as smart long posts. Sometimes I like coming into a topic and just saying "This is really great" rather than overthinking and writing an essay.

this is exactly what i'm going on about in above two posts though (which is good, u understand my point then). and yeah, the short blurts diss is my own personal preference and i realized that it ain't no good, i need to revise my thoughts bout it...

we need more niggaz talkin bout rap here though, Black Is Beautiful... koreans/japanese who only speak in katakana... all welcome, welcome to salt world - deal with it/we have NO fucking motto...
