Do you guys remember like the 40% and 60% translated versions of RM95 haha? GUESSWORK was needed sometimes!!

Any of you guys try Sim RPGMaker 1995? I was obsessed with that for a while. One of the main reasons back in the day I thought LEARN JAPANESE was to use SimRPG2000, which looked pretty rocking.
Hey hey hey

ABL makes me angry. Here you've got a guy who's made an interesting game so far and could presumably finish it without *too* much trouble (since all graphics and songs were ripped/stolen and he was using rm2k) but then like 7 years pass and NOTHING. Even though the guy is still around. How does that happen? I could get it if you're working together with a team and with actual sprite artists and such, but I never got this.

probably like pressure/expectations, he could never make a conclusion because the first part set this ridiculously high bar or something and there would be no way to satisfy/appease the fans

Heard he took up law or something, so yea it's understandable if he didn't have time or interest anymore. But damn, he was a really good storyteller I don't even seeany newer rm games who could match up

Well I don't know, somehow it strikes me as odd that he wouldn't have some sort of an idea about how to conclude the story. At least he should know where to go from the last part he released, because he put a lot of unresolved little story elements out there which I doubt he'd have done without first thinking about it. But it's all speculation on my part, I don't know what his situation is.

I've started playing ABL twice and have never finished it, mostly because it is ultimately still an rm2k game with bizarro graphics and pretty lousy gameplay mechanics (good god the rm2k dbs), but what is so great about it?  I don't mean that as like a contrarian "unlike everyody else I think it's terrible" way because I am actually curious and the little that I've played of it seemed like, you know, whatever.  But The Way also starts out pretty much whatever and gets pretty interesting despite itself so I guess what I'm asking is IS IT BETTER THAN THE WAY??

the way was pretty damn good and probably tops ABL if only because it actually concludes.

I think what people like about it is that the plot is not as straightforward as in most RPG maker games. Most people have some idea of what they want their story to be about and then they just rush through the plot and towards the conclusion (if they finish at all). Instead, ABL throws a lot of stuff out there and then plays Tetris until they all neatly fall together in place. (At least, the last part has yet to occur, if at all.)
