also we're now pretty much all mature and nice enough to know where the boundaries are, but I still wouldn't like it to be up to chance as to whether or not this type of joke will ever resurface. I'd rather not leave it at just the knowledge that most people here would immediately protest. so when I finish moving the forum over to IPB I'll also make sure to include a note about this in the forum rules for new members so that there's no ambiguity about the fact that you can't post racist/homophobic/etc content here anymore even if it's a hilarious joke.

Well I loved GW for its political incorrectness. I've got real life to be mature, prudent and respectable. GW has always been a space to go nuts, I always understood it that way. Whether it was with targ, or by being polemic, or 'borderline humour'.

That was my raison d'être here.

It feels like I no longer have a place here, in that sense at least. And it seems boring to me. :/

Targ really has nothing to do with any of that, it's just (maybe this is elevating it a bit) an art form, rather than a type of content. idk I'm not asking for the sun, the moon or the stars, it's simply a matter of not saying things that people might genuinely dislike or take offense at. if we were to do the exact opposite like you suggest, this would become a place with precisely one demographic. which seems to me like a lot more boring. but it also goes back to that original discussion we had about simply being nice and not being mean, and that means having some basic regard for other people.

Yeah GW has definitely become SW. Still, this has been my internet community, I could have joined others but instead I joined this one and honestly I'm glad I did. BTW, being PC is utter BULLSHIT, It's just a way to speak without having to worry that you might have offended some easily offened douchebag; you should be able to speak your mind and so long as it's not meant to be offensive then you can say what ever you want however you want; if any one is offended then that's there problem and they need to deal with out, not you. I FUCKING HATE PC, IT SHOULD DIE!

So besides Games master jasper, what other epic trolls did GW do? I don't remember a whole lot tbh.

EDIT: by not meant to be offensive I mean that what your saying has no offensive content, IE racism, sexicm, ignorance, etc.

on the other hand I remember when Trystero came up with the troubadours Xmas working title 'Ho-Ho-Holocaust'. And some laughed. And I ended up making a song with that title. In fact didnt the album end up with 2 songs with that same title? And now looking back, man, that was embarrassing. That was bad and wrong.

That's kind of an adolescent viewpoint of using taboo words. I think at some point people need to grow up and realize that just saying whatever you want isn't really breaking down the barriers or removing the negative aspects of those words, those are just excuses to say them that have no real impact or benefit except to alienate the people who would find those words offensive. Those things are funny when you're a teenager but at this point the majority of us Salt Worlders are adults and that kind of shit doesn't really fly.

Also if your favorite thing about GW/SW was just saying offensive words without repercussions then well... I don't know what to say about that other than you probably aren't going to contribute much to the current culture.

yeah, that's the thing, what's relaxing to you is, to someone else, a confrontation with the fact there are people out there who hate them for what they are. but I don't really see the point in being transfixed on the use of slurs anyway. it's not particularly funny or anything. might've been years ago when we were young but these days there's little point in it, either related to humor or otherwise.

I don't know if this counts as a "troll" (it's like a harmless troll/prank thing) but one time Chef did a series of posts about playing on some minecraft server, and he was playing this foreigner who would say all these horribly offensive things, but in a clueless and innocent sort of way. And everyone on the server would kindly scold him that he couldn't say those things and he would gradually learn how to be proper. And he would make all kinds of pixel art of very American things and whatnot, I think he loved Nike and Michael Jordan and stuff. I found that whole thing super funny and I wish I knew where that topic was.

I'm pretty surprised by swordfish's post considering... well... being part of the trans community and all...

At the same time I acknowledge that line of thinking in that I think she's trying to say she hates worrying about not offending people rather than that she actually wants to go out and say nigger and faggot out loud, or say other hateful things.

She wants the technical freedom to say mean things, but doesn't actually have a need to say mean things (and potentially even other people to be able to say mean things to her). She doesn't want to have to constantly have an extra layer of mental filtering.

In a less absolutist sense. one might also probably doesn't want to take fault or blame for offending someone on accident. Since it was an accident, no one is technically to blame, and one should only take blame if they continue after being told not to say whatever it was that was offensive. (but Dada sort of already covered that I guess)

Swordfish definitely could have worded her post better though.

As for needing a "PC" environment for our forum, we most definitely do not want to allow people to use the words nigger and faggot as insults/slurs for fairly obvious reasons. GW/SW is not your place to say taboo things (well some taboo things) anymore sheppard. but there are plenty of places where you can. So go to those places if you really need that sort of atmosphere.

Though I should say that you can say really taboo things but still not be actually attacking anyone with a slur. Like "I think we should eat our dead instead of just burying them."
