seriously dude, you could just be a little fucking nicer.
Sure, maybe I could! I'm not nice to people who get mad over people being offended by slurs that target them. Maybe that's wrong. I'm not saying this to be facetious either, maybe it really is wrong. But that's my view: to say that someone's base reaction to being offended should have a little more decorum seems very wrong to me. Some people don't have that capacity, and I'm not going to be the one to criticize them for it.
But honestly, there was literally just one post that you could consider unhelpful, Geodude's initial reaction. That's just a reaction. There was no "snide bandwagon", nothing like it. You could say I was being snide, which was in response to Warped and Afura, not to what IceSage said. But it's a massive exaggeration to say this is some kind of systemic problem on this forum. All the other posts were pretty to-the-point, I think. Some people asked him not to say fafg anymore and he asked some questions but then complied. I think it wasn't particularly bad minus the sudden escalation about tone (that didn't seem warranted at all to me).
i don't know how the fuck my suggesting policy for a repeated event makes me a target for criticism. i guess i need to GET IN TOUCH WITH REALITY.
What you're suggesting is that I somehow disallow people's base reactions to being targeted by a type of bigoted speech they don't like. I can't do that. What I meant by what I said is that it's just not reasonable to expect there to not be some kind of backlash whenever this happens. The internet just isn't a place full of people who 'get' these things. So people are gonna make mistakes, and when they happen they're gonna get called out. I can't instantly ban people when this happens, and I'd feel wrong about making some kind of policy saying "don't respond until a mod arrives to defuse the situation". If you're suggesting something else, I'd like to hear it [in ][/in].
