Hiya. There aren't very many good comedies on tv at any given time. Nathan For You is about a guy, Nathan Fielder, who goes around to various businesses in the US and offers to do promotional campaigns for them. The idea is that the character he plays in the show, which as far as I can tell isn't entirely scripted and involves a lot of legitimate interactions, knows very little about business and has no sense of propriety or common sense when it comes to devising his marketing ideas. Sometimes there are segments which focus on making fun of a particular genre of reality tv rather than the business promotion stuff, like in an episode where he realises that he is lonely and he can't talk to women so he invents a fake reality show which is exactly the same as the bachelor.

It's really funny, and Nathan seems like a really sweet and nice guy. Some people said something about the show being mean spirited because it is playing with small businesses a lot of the time but uh...okay, I guess I don't mind people who are running businesses getting embarrassed a bit here and there. None of it is vicious personally, though. In any given scene, the joke is almost always equally on Nathan's character as it is on the business owner. There are a couple of exceptions where the owner seems like an asshole, though, so they probably deserve it.

Anyway - this show is really good and I'd say it is funny far more often than it isn't. It was a cool surprise. There are 8 episodes of it, the first season just finished last week I think. I don't know if there will be any more because nobody watched it, apparently it only got like 400,000 viewers a week. I hope they do make more episodes, or that Nathan Fielder makes more comedy in the future because this is a really funny show with a pretty solid central comedy idea. Here are a few clips I think get the show across, but just go download it or something!

This clip is too short, but it gets the idea across. This idea takes up most of this episode and it is hilarious. Apparently a lot of news agencies picked up the video he uploaded and it got like 6 million views and it was all just a dumb joke:

edit: hahaha nathan actually left a yelp review for this guy: http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/wolfes-investigations-los-angeles

There are plenty more which are easy to find on youtube, I don't want to overload the topic. I pretty much like all of this show. Even when it seems like it is gonna go wrong, it is actually tricking you into worrying about that because it knows you will be, and then flips the script.

Does anyone already watch it? I hope if you don't, you enjoy this cool comedy show.

I was trying to figure out where I recognized him from, it's youtube. you're halfway there jamie

it looks pretty good. I checked out a couple clips and I think the frozen yogurt one is pretty good, but some of the others do seem mean!

What ones? I never really felt like it was crossing a line I wasn't comfortable with. There are parts where the people he is involved with clearly don't get what is happening, fully, and are just going along with whatever because of the cameras - like the best burger in LA guy, or the tiny pizza guy - but any potential cruelty is leavened by the way Nathan takes the brunt of whatever the negative outcomes are.

just where the small business owner or whoever seems to be the butt of the joke, like he's kinda taking advantage of them and making fun of them for no good reason. from the few clips I watched it seems like he usually tries to make the joke on his character, but like that drink my grandson's pee section - it was really funny when the guy brought it up out of nowhere, but nathan kind of pushed it too far. I mean he didn't go way over the top tosh.0 style, but it's still really uncomfortable. a little bit with that PI segment too. he's creating these situations, he kind of owes it to them not to be a jerk or whatever. I didn't feel bad at all when he was outright making fun of the cocky marketing guy in the froyo episode though, so maybe it's just a problem with me.

I like the parody of awful marketing ideas and the sort of consumerist jubilee culture present in a lot of recent small businesses. I like the general setup of the show too, it definitely seems like he's a talented guy. I want to get around to watching some full episodes at some point
