Wow, this was a brilliant game. This was almost as, if not entirely as, good as 'The Way'.
The day Act II comes out will be a good day indeed.

Finished the game. Can't wait till Act 2.

Story:
Not bad, mixing in the serious state of the Commonwealth with the carefree adventures of Ryan and sometimes a sprinkling of Lavie (that was actually fun!) was done well. Flows really well. Humour and seriousness was mixed very well in this game.

Characters:
Ah. One of my favourite parts. All of the characters were very well thought out and worked well together. They all spoke to each other in a lifelike manner. One touch I find considerable for some reason is pauses in the text when the character should be pausing. That really helps with the flow of the talking. I also liked how they all had expressions, and it was a nice touch to make Lavie change from Annoying to Annoyed. The only character(s) I felt hadn't distinguished themselves were all the mothers. Obviously, Ryan and Armin seem attached to their mothers, but the mothers seem so generic. Lavie's grandmother was much better done, in my opinion.

Gameplay:
Challenging enough for me to have to redo the bird thing at the ruins more than a couple of times =P. I liked Lavie's mini-game a lot. It was hilarious (especially the headmaster and his son XD) and fun to do. I really liked the interaction between the characters and their environment. Being able to talk to the people in towns while they changed what they said from time to time really rocked, and I found myself talking to everyone with both Ryan and Lavie just to see what was different. I really liked the libraries too. Paz Cortez was just hilarious.

Music: Very good at parts, but not so good at others. I really liked the Lorean Gate music and some of the Mann Island Forest musics. I disliked others though, though I can't remember which. It was overall well executed though.

Graphics: Never seen the main character facesets before! There was a mix of RTP and Rudra facesets too that I found kind of strange right after playing some Aurora Wing (especially Katie = Sarah. Totally different characters). Maping was done well, and I find especially well in the Mann Island forests.

Overall: AWESOME game.

I've started playing this earlier today. It had a really slow sorta boring start, but the characters and dialogue are both well thought-out. As of now it has my seal of approval.

Just saw C'est Lavie! Awesome! I was laughing so hard that my mom came up to see what was wrong =P.

Good work!

Oh... and Ryan sounds a lot older than he looks =P.

Hah! I was wondering if anyone would notice that, it's quite easy to miss. :) Thank you for the review Strafe, it's much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed Act I (and C'est Lavie), hope you will enjoy Act II whenever it's released.

abyssal_leviathin: Cool. Hope it still has your seal of approval by the end. :)

I finally got to getting through all of LAW: ep 1 and I have to say that this game is the best game ever created with rpg maker 2000 behind The Stupidest Game Ever Created. The Dialogue is extremely deep and plentiful with EVERY NPC, every NPC you talk to in the first town has lines and lines to say. The characters are better than any other characters I've found in any other RPG Maker 2k or 2k3 or xp game, each has their own personality and goals and has LOADS of dialogue (changing throughout the game). The music selection is the best I've heard in any independent game to date, loads of piano-ish jazzy music completing the pleasent world.

Admiral says to me "thank you for your kind words", but these are no kind words. These are straight facts: LAW is the best rm2k game I've found so far (I've played loads of indy titles including Channel Changer, NigSek, The Way Series; these hardly compare to the massive character of this rpg).

I just "saw" C'est Lavie and found it pretty amusing. The dialogue, music (especially the librarie's in that town which has a name I cant remember) and the characters (Henrik's my favourite, Ryan second and Juno third) are all great, though there are graphical issues.

Believe me, after playing this game a TON of other games will start to seem really mediocre.

Ohlichris: Library in the town you can't remember... Well, there are two towns with libraries (three, if you count Lavie's father's collection), so it could be either Lorean or Alton?

hero_bash: Glad to hear it! Have a favorite character, by any chance?

tears123: Cool. I hope you enjoy, and maybe let me know what you think if you feel so inclined.

Strafe: Heh... Are you sure that's a plus point?  :)

If theres one game I use reference to, it's usually Love and War. Law's characters basically carry the whole game no problem. Once you play about 15 minutes of the game you forget about everthing else in regards to mapping or even the plot itself. Why? because you're too busy wanting to learn about the characters.  It's an awesome game, it's been a good 3 months since I played it so I'm downloading again as we speak.

This one is easily on my favorite of all time list. I can only speculate on how entertaining LaW act 2 will be. -_-

Due to high recommendation from a friend, this is the first rpgmaker game I've ever downloaded, and I really like it so far. It's amazing how much detail went into making this. It's a little difficult for me (cuz I'm just bad at rpg's in general) so I wish there was some kind of walkthrough... but otherwise, I am totally into this game!

Glad you like it so far! If you're stuck, feel free to e-mail me, or perhaps post for help at the LAW forum. :)

By the way! It's been brought to my attention that a file was somehow left out of the "Law1-RTP.zip" version, that causes battles in the Ozunhold subquest to crash. I've added the file now, but if anyone's downloaded that version before yesterday and are still playing, you may want to grab this file: http://www.blue-light.net/law/downloads/files/WasteRuins.png and save it in the "Backdrop" subdirectory. The other version is unaffected.

You could also ignore the Ozunhold subquest, I guess.  Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
