Recently it has been brought to my attention that a lot of the topics in this forum are not of a great standard. I often read the first post of a topic, something along the lines of "HERE IS THE FILM NAME, I LIKED IT, WHAT ABOUT YOU?" and I really don't want to read through 2 pages of posts of people arguing about whether a film is good or bad just to get some information about what the film is actually about.
Jeff suggested to me that the original poster of the topic should be required to give an "out of 5" rating on the movie which is not something I want to enforce on people (topics can be made before films are even released etc) but I do want to promote topics to include more information other than FILM, DISCUSS.
I am stickying Impeal's post because Impeal always makes pretty great posts and although you don't have to copy his formatting, layouts or use his post as a template he does include a few general things that everyone could consider doing when making a post about a film.
From the Go he has provided information on the film (Directors, Actors, etc and other related information that people might be interested in.) This is an old topic so the information is a bit dated already but nevermind. It's things like this that might hook interest in a film "oh shit it's a new film by the guy who directed se7en and it has morgan freeman playing god."
A Plot Outline (which is what we all want to know about, rather than fish through the entire topic to get an idea.) Not even his own but it's still informative to have so all you lazy people who are thinking "What the fuck I am too lazy to do this..." Just copy from Wikipedia okay.
The Trailer and IMDB link. Why is this stuff important? Well everyone likes watching the flashy effects of a trailer and trailer's are easy to come by. If I ever want to watch a trailer for anything I just got to
Youtube, type in the name of the film and as many trailers as I can hope for come up in a long list ready for me to choose the one that looks the best quality.
IMDB is great because it provides us with all the information on actors, directors, producers and even musicians and lighting technicians so there is nothing that we miss about the film. It provides (for the most part) an in depth cast listing right down to the very last name on the credit list and other not so useful information like GOOD QUOTES FROM THE MOVIE but whatever I like IMDB.
And lastly Impeal has provided us with his own opinion (hooray.) In the case of this topic the film hadn't been released yet but he usually does give us his own opinion and now we are ready to discuss the movie and if you don't want to discuss the movie you don't have to wade through the next ten posts of "yeah i saw it, it sucked" in order to get an idea of what the movie is about.
Obviously I am just pinning this topic because I think it is a good topic that people could learn from and it will probably not change the way you post in this forum at all but in the hope that it does please provide as much information as you can possibly muster about a film when posting a topic. (I know this is the internet and we could find out if we wanted but people are lazy.)
Finally (again) the last thing I could throw into this is FEEL FREE TO GIVE YOUR FILM AN OUT OF FIVE TEN STAR RATING O OF THREE AND USE PICTURES MAYBE IF YOU WANT (w/e) because then we don't even need to read the topic that you just took the time to make.
thanks.
