info here

basically to put it short if you run white noise through it and do a simple lowpass filter on it you get pretty damn close to pink noise, which afaik people have had to approximate because the slope is -3db and -3db filters don't exist

um as stated in the forum post the distortion was making white noise after all, I'm doing a rehaul of it but I still want to edit it to squeeze every bit of precision out of it

it's a soft distortion/saturation, but I noticed it does weird things to pure noise is all. Look up FerricTDS, it's a VST tape saturation plugin, which is sort of like what I'm going for

sounds interesting. any chance of it appearing in Audio Unit format? (realise it's highly unlikely, but...)

no audio unit for you. Although reaper has a mac version I think?

I'm really out of my mind now. I converted it from using 2D fractals to octonions (like quaternions but 8 dimensions). There's also a 16 dimensional version etc. but it's too slow to run unfortunately (multiplying an octonion requires this 8x8 matrix, the next one is 16x16 etc. )

cool thing though is you have 8 julia variables to tweak in this case

taking it to extremes lol

if you look at the waveform there are /still/ transients somehow tho

I think I've gotten to the point where more iterations = finer grained. Not sure tho maybe I'm just imagining it

PM if you'd like a copy

edit: not sure yet on the iteration thing, but I made a slider to control how much the distortion can fluctuate, going from 0-100% distortion was way too much. It's interesting though, if you push the range more you can distort it a bit more without it sounding bad. But eventually there get to be too many artifacts

ok

w/o distortion

with distortion and some careful EQ

no clipping/compression/oversampling was used. It's interesting too, you can place the distortion ahead of the EQ in the chain and kind of hear the dynamics change better/sounds make room for other sounds? I dunno

trying something new. Still using the distortion, but using it on a copy of the song and sort of sidechaining that to the tanh() saturation (sidechain volume controls the overdrive amount). The thing is you can do anything inbetween, so I EQed the fuck out of the sidechain and it literally polishs out the rough edges from the saturation

bleh at my previous posts

so I changed the code from fractals to MANDELBULB code and everything seems to work the way I hoped now. I'm not sure if you'd say you can PUSH IT MORE than a regular tanh() distortion. But it is more forgiving at the same level of overdrive and you seem to feel the bass frequencies more for example.
Going to experiment with it, EQ it to shit beforehand and see if I can get it to 0 db or some crazy shit. I mean with the waveform resembling the original and not SQUARE WAVE
